**Main Purpose & Function**

The Contaminated Sites Specialist is responsible for providing technical environmental advice and coordinating the assessment and management of contamination on City property. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the selection and performance of consultants and contractors conducting environmental assessments and remediation activities.

**Key Contacts & Reporting Relationships**

This position reports to the Manager of Environmental Services. Key contacts include the Assistant Manager of Environmental Services, the Contaminated Sites Team, and Engineering Services.

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**
- Coordinate the assessment and management of contamination on City property, to facilitate Engineering Department operations and regulatory compliance.
- Represent the City's interests in meetings as the land owner's environmental technical expert.
- Participate in Department/City's liaison with consultants, clients and City departments in matters pertaining to environmental contamination aspects of projects.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, sustainability, quality and completeness; identify problems; evaluate and respond; manage environmental consultancy contracts; review legal agreements with consultants, contractors, and recommend actions as appropriate.
- Provide technical review of and contribute to the development of environmental testing and remediation plans.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

**Qualifications**

Education and Experience:

- University degree in Environmental Engineering or Applied Environmental Sciences (i.e. B.Sc., B.A.Sc., M.Sc.).
- 7 to 10 years proven experience in contaminated sites in a project management or leadership capacity.
- Expert experience in development of work programs and budgets; evaluating, and administering procurement processes, and managing agreements and contracts.
- Registration in BC as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.), or Environmental Professional (EP) would be considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Familiarity with WorkSafeBC.
- Superior verbal and written communication and advanced presentation skills.
- Ability to assist in building cross-functional teams, and work effectively in a matrix structure outside the City’s regular organization.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.

The City’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
