Advancement Services & Operations is the administrative and technology support unit for all Advancement activities
Alumni Engagement provides programs, services, and engagement to over 350,000 York alumni worldwide
Development leads efforts to promote and secure philanthropic support from alumni, donors, friends, corporations, and foundations
Advancement Communications & Marketing works to promote and communicate alumni and donor messages along with direct marketing services for alumni and donor engagement

The Senior Development Officer, Major Gift advances the University's mission by working directly with the Faculty Director, Development to devise and implement a comprehensive Major Gift plan for the Faculty that reflects their strategic priorities, links with appropriate partners within the Faculty, and works in concert with the University's Academic Plan.

The incumbent is responsible for the full scope of activities related to the cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors. The incumbent develops strategies to promote strategic partnerships and loyal giving. Personally, solicits gifts (both independently and in conjunction with senior administrators and senior fundraising volunteers), and stewards donors. In addition to Major Giving, the incumbent actively participates in planned giving, donor relations, stewardship, annual giving, alumni relations, and sound information management.

**Education**:
A university education or equivalent combination of education and fundraising experience, specifically in an educational setting.

**Experience**:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in professional fundraising, with a focus on Major Gifts and with significant exposure to stewardship and Planned Giving. University fundraising and major campaign experience an asset.

**Knowledge**:
Proven track record of closing Major Gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
Ability to organize, motivate, and work constructively with staff, students, and volunteers. Ability to facilitate groups of people to work towards a common goal.
Ability to provide project leadership to individuals with diverse interests and objectives.
Ability to meet goals at the faculty level while fulfilling the needs of the development team.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to work with senior volunteers and senior organizational leadership.
A strong commitment to customer service.
Strong ability to make highly effective formal and informal presentations to diverse groups, large and small.
Ability to work independently and as part of team.

**Skills**:
Ability to write and speak fluently in the English language. Ability to write for the university fundraising environment.
Attention to details, high standards for quality, ability to balance risk, university policies and donor intent.
Excellence in ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in a concise creative, and persuasive manner. Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of individuals at many different levels.
Excellent project management, prioritization and time-management skills are required to manage multiple on-going projects simultaneously.
High skill level in diplomacy and negotiation.
Strong analytical, research, interpretative and evaluation skills.

**Additional Notes**:
Agile, fast paced, problem solving, continuous risk monitoring, tight deadlines, managing critical assets and tools such as, database management, financial transactions, adherence to government, CRA and privacy regulations.
Normal office environment (actual and/or virtual).
Regular travel for meetings, conferences, and events. Occasional travel outside of the GTA may be required.
Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility in hours and days of work.
- **Compensation**:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
