**About Us**:
A National Historic site, the Museum of Industry stands on the spot where Nova Scotia’s coal mining industry began in 1827. This 80,000 sq. foot structure is the largest museum in Atlantic Canada and the only Canadian museum dedicated to their Provinces industrial heritage. Here we are committed to telling the story of Nova Scotia work and workers using hands-on exhibits, demonstrations, and fascinating artifacts. The Museum of Industry (MOI) preserves and interprets one of the largest and most significant collections of industrial artifacts in Canada. Our collection includes over 36,000 artifacts, including six locomotives, two of the oldest surviving locomotives in the world, the first Volvo manufactured in Canada, early appliances and artifacts and images from our coal mining heritage.

The Museum of Industry is one of 28 provincial sites as part of the Nova Scotia Museum system under the provincial Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage. In addition to showcasing the rich heritage of industrial history and its connections in Nova Scotia, the Museum offers guided tours, welcomes school visits, hosts special cultural, arts and community events and programs each year including multi-cultural activities, artistic performances, and historical presentations.

From March to the end of June, the Museum of Industry will be presenting the travelling exhibit “Age of Mastodon”. Visitors can journey back 80,000 years to a time when giants roamed what is now Nova Scotia. See real fossils, specimens, and a full-sized Mastodon On loan from the Nova Scotia Museum. July through September, MOI will present an art exhibit and a travelling exhibit in our Samson Gallery

**About Our Opportunity**:
Over a 16-week work term the employee will support the Museum’s Events and Promotions Officer. They will be involved in planning promotions, writing about museum events, programs, and exhibits for publicity, social media and website, and community partners. They will support the museum’s Marketing and Events Officer in facilitating and staffing a wide variety of events and programs throughout the summer, including major initiatives with a special 2023 museum exhibit.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
Good communication and organizational skills are required. Computer proficiency with common software and web search is required. Interpersonal and problem-solving skills are needed and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and with a variety of community partners and members of the public.

Assets for this position include:

- Demonstrated computer, communication, and organizational skills.
- Work or volunteer experience in developing social media museum projects (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) and producing digital material using video, photography and possibly graphic design are beneficial.
- Previous experience with cultural and arts events management, development and presentation skills, work in a similar setting as heritage, arts or cultural field.
- Tourism, public relations and promotions experience

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

**Working Conditions**:
Physical requirements include standing, walking, and moving around for extended periods of time, exposure to dust, and the use of common cleaning fluids.

**Additional Information**:

- Must be returning to school in the Fall of 2023.
- Fluency in English is a requirement. Some fluency in French would be considered an asset.
- Filling the position is based upon receiving funding approval from Young Canada Works.
