**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Responsible for the accurate completion and timely filing of all applicable tax filings for Carleton University and its US foundation and provides support for any related audits. The role analyses, prepares and/or works with external consultants to obtain additional HST recoveries. The position researches and advises on taxation questions in various areas of taxation (GST/HST, income tax, etc.,), provides employee versus independent contractor determinations, and addresses other tax matters, as required.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Knowledge of accounting policies, procedures, and processes including financial and regulatory reports
- Knowledge of tax, tax compliance, and tax planning issues, particularly in a university and charity setting
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and specific public sector accounting standards
- Knowledge of University’s business operations as well as the broader University offices, academic units, departments, and divisions
- Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific and enterprise software, and technology devices

**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:

- Bachelor’s degree
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- In-depth tax course/program considered an asset
- Minimum of four years previous experience in finance, accounting, and taxation
