Stem Liaison and Copyright Librarian

BCIT’s **Library Services** is seeking a **regular, part-time (0.8**FTE**)**STEM** Liaison and Copyright Librarian.**The role will participate in a core set of responsibilities for the library including instruction, reference and research assistance, departmental liaison activities, outreach, and collection development.
With the main campus library at Burnaby, and two satellite campus libraries, Library Services aims to strengthen learning, teaching, and research at BCIT through innovative and effective resources, partnerships and services. Towards these aims, the Library works under the umbrella of Student Success and is guided by the goals articulated in strategic plans (the Library’s and BCIT’s), as well as BCIT’s eLearning Strategy and the Learning and Teaching Framework.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Liaison areas currently include programs within the School of Energy and the School of Computing and Academic Studies. These areas may require some travel to our specialty campuses in the Lower Mainland. Liaison assignments are reviewed annually within the Department and could change over time. This position helps address copyright issues for the library and develops copyright expertise to provide functional leadership in this area.
- Creating and delivering instruction classes, online and in-person
- Providing online (including AskAway) and in-person reference assistance
- Providing research support
- Providing copyright expertise, guidance and support to the BCIT community
- Participating in the copyright community of practice
- Liaising with the Information Access and Privacy Office
- Promoting digital literacy
- Assessment of ongoing student and faculty library support needs in liaison areas
- Serving on relevant library, institute, and external committees
- Knowledge development in all areas of responsibility
- Ensuring work aligns with Library and BCIT strategic plans, Education plan, IDEAS framework, etc.
- Participating in Department and Library meetings
- Developing and maintaining close working relationships with faculty in assigned disciplines; serving as their primary Libraries contact
- Engaging with faculty and library colleagues to integrate information, digital, and data literacy concepts and skills into the curriculum
- Monitoring trends in areas of liaison responsibility to inform the design of library services and the development of library collections
- Consulting with technical services, collections coordinator, faculty to develop and maintain collections in liaison areas
- Providing educational support needed through creation of workshops and consultative services
- Supporting opportunities for outreach and other initiatives that improve student success
- Engaging in networking and professional development
- Collaborating with other departments within the librarian and working as a team member
**Qualifications**
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- MLIS from ALA-accredited institution
- Relevant academic library experience (2+ years preferred)
- Demonstrated interest in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
- Demonstrated interest in Canadian Copyright laws and practice
- Ability and willingness to occasionally work on weekends/evenings
- Ability to occasionally travel and work at specialty campuses
- Experience with instruction in a higher education setting
- Ability to create and present student-focused instructional materials and to utilize appropriate digital resources (such as Learning Management Software and LibGuides) to facilitate instructional goals
- Ability to learn and use the Library’s range of e-resources and collections especially in the assigned liaison areas
- Familiarity with collection management tools and techniques
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of current academic library landscape
- Demonstrated understanding of digital literacy practices
- Ability to work independently, flexibly and effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities
- Ability to learn and to provide leadership about the Canadian copyright environment with a focus on post-secondary concerns
- Commitment to working respectfully and effectively in a collegial team environment, and with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds
