Temporary Full Time Community Outreach Worker

The Newcomer Program Worker is primarily responsible to assist newcomers with settlement services. The Newcomer Program Worker will also implement, instruct and coordinate a limited range of programs in accordance with The Salvation Army mission and values.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Program**
- Conduct initial intake assessment and determine immediate needs.
- Perform all aspects of the case management process, intake, review/assessment, goal planning, action, goal attainment, transition, and follow-up to determine continued eligibility to participate.
- Develop goal plans with clients and schedule regular meetings to review progress and engage in further planning.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained in accordance with The Salvation Army policy and applicable legislation.
- Provide appropriate referrals, as required.
- Provide settlement services, including information, orientation, and assistance to clients.
- Liaise with Salvation Army ministries, settlement and mainstream organizations and government departments for up-to-date program and service information related to client needs.
- Provide relevant mid-week programming to the immigrant population.
- Organize weekly ESL classes.
- Introduce individuals and families to various programs and provide wrap around support to help them get settled and integrated into Canada.
- Network with other community agencies in Hamilton as appropriate.
- Be instrumental in building relationships between the church and local community.
- Provide mentoring and mobilize the congregation to support newcomers.
- Involved in community outreach for church growth.
- Assist in coordinating evangelistic outreach efforts for congregation.
- Create, manage, and update content related to the program for social media accounts.
**Administration**
- Maintain accurate, relevant and confidential records for each client, including detailed case notes, budget data, debts, income tax returns etc. ensuring that the appropriate forms are always used.
- Ensure that documentation is managed in accordance with the “Standard Case Record System” in consultation with your supervisor.
- Submit monthly statistics via SAMIS and utilize the Client Management System in an accurate and timely manner as required by The Salvation Army; submit quarterly per diem statistics.
**Health and Safety**
- Ensure that the food bank and area is maintained regarding appearance, condition and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
- Seek out continual education and resources for all areas of responsibilities, specifically regarding COVID-19 requirements as per the local Health Unit.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as required.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
- This is a temporary full-time position (1 year contract) based on 40 hours per week.
- Some flexibility in scheduling required, some weekend and evening work may be required.
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
- Ability to lift/move 40 lbs.
- Travel is associated with this position.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
- Completion of a two (2) year Community College Diploma in Human or Social Services field.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
**EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE**:
- Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience providing casework services, documenting and maintaining case files, working in collaboration with other service providers, community outreach, and working with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of community-based resources/programs/services is required and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
- Familiarity with GTHA community & social services.
- Knowledge of Social Media platforms.
**SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES**:
- Fluency (verbal and written) in a second language Thai or Korean.
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
- Able to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member.
- Participate in mandatory orientation training.
- Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
- Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
