Located just outside of Vancouver in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, the Department of Therapeutic Recreation at Douglas College offers a 2-year fully online and face-to face Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation and a 4-year Bachelor of therapeutic Recreation. - The Department of Therapeutic Recreation is recognized as an innovative program leader with a strong academic and research-based curriculum that includes numerous opportunities for experiential learning in both the Diploma and Bachelor degree (BTR) programs. Courses in the department are taught both in person and online. Graduates from the diploma and degree programs are career-ready, and some degree graduates continue into graduate programs. The Department of Therapeutic Recreation currently prepares BTR students for eligibility to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.**Responsibilities**
- Faculty are hired to teach classes in face-to-face, on-line, and hybrid formats. Faculty are required to instruct students, facilitate learning, and evaluate student progress in the therapeutic recreation program. Faculty are expected to plan, organize, and manage learning activities and resources and maintain high quality learner-centered instruction, demonstrating an awareness of diverse student learner needs. Working collaboratively with all members of the Therapeutic Recreation Department including participation in department, Faculty and College wide events is also required.**To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need**
- Knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Theories, philosophies and values of therapeutic recreation, leisure,

and recreation
- Diversity and inclusion, cultural consciousness and equity issues in leisure

and recreation
- Recreation leadership and communication skills
- Leadership and management in therapeutic recreation and health care
- Aging and chronic health conditions
- Physical and developmental disabilities
- Research and evaluation
- Community development in leisure and recreation contexts
- Management in Therapeutic Recreation
- Current issues and trends in Therapeutic Recreation
- Assets include:

- Post-secondary teaching experience including face-to-face and on-line environments and have demonstrated a strong commitment to innovative approaches to teaching including designing, teaching and evaluating course curriculum in both traditional, online and hybrid environments.
- Work experience in a therapeutic recreation environment with people of various ages and with varying abilities.
- A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation
- Previous or current involvement in Therapeutic Recreation related professional associations
