Job Description Summary

The Research and Evaluation Analyst is responsible for managing annual large-scale UBC institutional surveys including, survey deployment, data processing and analysis, information reporting, and quality assurance. The incumbent will also review survey-reporting needs at UBC, and develop reporting tools to disseminate survey data to support planning and inform decision-making across UBC, as well as supporting evaluations of key initiatives across the University.

Organizational Status

Working under the direction of the Associate Director, Student Experience Evaluation and Research (SEER), and the Chief Institutional Research Officer (CIRO), the Research and Evaluation Analyst position will also work collaboratively with other members of the SEER team and the Planning and Institutional Research (PAIR) department.

Work Performed
- The position will support planning and inform decision making across the university in the evaluation of student programs and services regarding the student experience and learning environment.
- Administer, analyze, and report on large-scale institutional student surveys such as the Undergraduate Experience Survey, the National Survey of Student Engagement, the New to UBC Survey, etc.
- Coordinate the design, data collection, data cleaning and processing, data analysis and reporting of large-scale institutional surveys.
- Establish and/or use standardized processes and automation to process and report on large-scale data sets. Provide quality assurance and ensure compliance with the Survey Governance Framework.
- maintain survey database and data pipeline for automation and ensure data quality and data integrity within the data model.
- Clean, process, transform large-scale data sets via statistical programming language (e.g. R, SPSS) to create calculated variables, to label variables and values, to merge data files, to compute dependent and independent variables, to flag outliers, to extract variables, etc.
- Provide online, interactive reporting to all stakeholders while protecting data confidentiality of students using Tableau or Power BI. Use statistical programming language for archiving and replicating data processing and analysis.
- Conduct statistical analyses to support decision-making and evaluate progress towards strategic objectives.
- Lead consultations with internal clients for receiving input on annual UBC student surveys; identify recommendations and opportunities for how the annual surveys could support their planning needs.
- Communicate results, implications and provide recommendations for both research and non-research / non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Data and analysis from this position will be used for decision-making at all levels of the institution, and errors in the data and analysis can potentially have consequences in terms of strategic direction, programming, policy, and budget and human resource decisions. The Incumbent, given initial parameters, would be expected to be able to obtain the necessary data and conduct analyses without direct supervision. The Associate Director, SEER, will review analyses produced at a high level, but detailed analyses will be the accountability of the Research and Evaluation Analyst.
