The City of Victoria is seeking a Co-Op Student in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or Geomatics to support with the capture, maintenance and spatial representation of various City assets. Working with staff in the City’s Engineering and Public Works Department, the Co-Op Student will:

- Update and add attributes to underground utility infrastructure records.
- Cross-reference underground utility infrastructure drawing records with the City’s GIS.
- Conduct general GIS tasks to improve the spatial representation of City assets and infrastructure.

**POSITION FUNCTION**

As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.

**KEY DUTIES**

Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City’s operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.

Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.

Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.

Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure ‘shared learning’.

**INDEPENDENCE**

Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification**:
High School.

Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.

Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.

In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.

**Experience**:
Not required.

**Pre-Employment Requirements**

Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

**Work schedule: Monday to Friday, (35 hour work week)**
