Library Service Assistant 1/2

As part of the library team, you will help build the library’s collections. Your primary responsibilities will be preparing and processing new library materials.

**As the** **_Processing Assistant_** **you will**:

- Prepare and process new books and audio-visual materials according to set procedures by affixing labels, stamping, inserting detection strips, laminating book jackets and attaching them to books, and affixing barcodes.
- Create or complete item records for new and/or previously catalogued materials in the database by generating spine labels and linking barcodes.
- Process rebound books for continued use according to set procedures.
- Maintain statistics as required.
- Attend and participate in Support Services meetings.
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification as assigned.

**Your education and qualifications include**:
1. High school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
2. Demonstrated ability to type accurately at 20 w.p.m. net.
3. Ability to work neatly and accurately at a variety of repetitive manual tasks.
4. Ability to help train new employees and work harmoniously with other staff members.
5. Ability to operate or learn to operate a laminating and a Therm-a-bind machine in six (6) months, as well as attach laminated jackets and insert magnetic detection strips.

**Conditions of employment**:

- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position (i.e. Must be able to lift boxes and equipment weighing 20-25 pounds, and set up tables, chairs, banners, etc.).
