**SUMMARY**:
Develops, deploys, and manages the procurement strategies for the indirect materials and services required to support company operations. These commodities generally represent a major portion of a large procurement category and typically involve multi-year/multi-million-dollar expenditures negotiated and contracted utilizing national agreements. This position utilizes a comprehensive sourcing process which includes a highly effective commodity and vendor analysis, comprehensive sourcing strategy development and execution, aggressive contract negotiation, and strong vendor performance management. This position is responsible for driving lowest total cost of ownership and maximum value for the assigned commodities. Manages effective internal client and supplier relationships from an entry to the most senior level.
**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- _Integral part of the central procurement team._
- Establish and fully implement strategic plans for category purchases based on in-depth knowledge of foreign and domestic markets for optimum pricing and terms.
- Manage and lead efforts based on individual, team, and overall business objectives.
- Perform market and financial analysis to determine business risk associated with a supplier or contract.
- Lead contract negotiations for the assigned categories.
- Using market and spend analysis tools, know the market drivers, supply base, emerging technologies, regulatory factors, category spend by branch, and supplier performance.
- Manage and maintain measurable performance metrics for contract adherence and performance.
- Act as project manager (develop, manage and implement) for cross functional teams to build stakeholder alignment (Operations, Technical, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Quality and Safety, etc.) to meet objectives.
- Establish/maintain professional relationships with suppliers/partners based on the highest ethical business practices as set forth in Samuel’s Code of Conduct.
**EDUCATION**:
- Prefer a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
**YEARS OF EXPERIENCE**
- 5+ years of experience in a category management role where purchasing skills have been applied.
**SKILLS**:
- Experience in a similar role ideally with a multi-site manufacturing site is an asset.
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
- Advanced knowledge of commercial terms and conditions.
- Market knowledge of products, equipment, and services.
- Good understanding of vendor performance and metrics management.
- Knowledge of consolidated contract spend across multiple locations.
- Experience in process improvement models.
- Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-assessment and problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer-service focus supporting an operating company, with ability to build credibility with internal clients and external suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-starter and ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Ability to travel as required.
