Position Title: Ecological Stewardship Specialist (Humber Arboretum)

**Job Type**: Regular Part Time (RPT)

Hours: up to 24 hours per week

Faculty/Department: Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellness

Campus/Location: North Campus

**Salary**: PT Support Payband 8 $24.99 (min) - $38.45 (max)

**What you will do**:
Reporting to the Manager, Humber Arboretum, the incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing and reporting on a comprehensive multi-year program to manage invasive plant species within the Humber Arboretum gardens and surrounding Environmentally Significant Areas (ESAs) while engaging in a variety of ways with Humber College staff, students and Arboretum partners.

**What you will bring to the role**:
**Education**
- 3-year diploma or degree in a field such as Ecosystem Management, Urban Ecology, or Habitat/Ecosystem Restoration.

**Experience**
- Surveys and monitors the Arboretum property to become knowledgeable about the plant and animal species present, establishing the scope, location and extent of the invasive species
- Coordinates with the City of Toronto and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority on a variety of issues relating to the Arboretum including invasive plant species management and habitat restoration
- Establishes and presents to the Arboretum Manager a comprehensive multi-year invasive species monitoring strategy that coincides with the Arboretum’s invasive species management plan.
- Develops an annual invasive plant species control schedule in coordination with Arboretum staff
- Coordinates daily work plans in discussion with Arboretum staff (dependent upon weather conditions, staff availability and plant development stages)
- Works in the field removing invasive plants using BMP and appropriate tools
- Documents areas and species controlled and quantities removed at the end of the season and reports to the Director, Humber Arboretum
- Responds to public interests by sharing information about the local ecosystem and answering a wide variety of questions

- Ability to multi-task and be flexible with priorities
- Strong organizational sills
- High degree of professionalism and attention to detail, with strong leadership, time management and collaboration skills.
