**What you’ll do**:
The Engineering Design Assessment Division (EDAD) is looking for a technical specialist to support the CNSC's mandate and mission. We provide regulatory leadership and expertise in the fields of mechanical, metallurgical, fire protection and civil engineering, and EDAD is looking for a technical specialist in the area of fire protection engineering.

This will be your opportunity to:

- Assess nuclear facilities' compliance with fire protection codes and standards
- Review and assess applicant and licensee submissions related to the fire safety at nuclear facilities
- Review and evaluate fire hazard assessments, fire suppression system assessments, and code compliance assessment reports
- Prepare inspection and technical reports, inspection guides and procedures and other documentation; contribute to the development of regulatory documents, standards and guidelines
- Represent the CNSC in national and international technical/scientific meetings, committees and organizations

**Essential Qualifications**:
**Education**:
Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University in science or engineering; an equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge may be considered.

**Language Requirements**:

- Bilingual non-imperative with proficiency at BBB level. If you are unsure of your proficiency level, we encourage you to self-assess here.

**Experience**:

- 10+ years in fire safety and/or fire protection engineering
- Computational modeling using tools such as FDS, CFAST and FDT, while considering the assumptions and limitation of tools used in associated fire safety calculations
- Preparation and review of scientific papers, reports and documents
- Project management and coordination

**Knowledge of**:

- Fire science and fire dynamics
- Heat transfer and smoke movement
- Active and passive fire protection methodologies, systems, and equipment
- Performance-based fire design (PBD)
- Fire protection-related codes and standards, including CSA N293, Fire protection for nuclear power plants, CSA N393, Fire protection for facilities that use, process, handle, or store nuclear substances, the National Building Code of Canada and the National Fire Code of Canada
- Deterministic and probabilistic fire risk assessment

**Ability**:

- Communicate complex ideas effectively to a variety of audiences both verbally and in writing
- Work effectively in both office and virtual / telework settings
- Develop and maintain relationships with different stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
