**The Bow Horn Bay Fire Department is seeking a qualified person for a full-time position of Fire Chief.**

**Fire Chief responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Plan, direct, and supervise, directly or through subordinate officers, the activities of the fire department including fire suppression, rescue services, and medical response.
- Supervision and training of volunteer firefighters enrolled in the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Academy (VIERA) NFPA 1001 program, and other courses.
- Ensure the fire department abides by current WorkSafeBC requirements and best practices and comply with current OH&S requirements.
- Be available for emergency calls at any time day or night.
- Responsible for the overall operational functions of the BHBFD.
- Conduct fire inspection and investigation.
- Conduct pre-fire plans as required.
- Develop and revise as required, short and long-range capital plans to keep pace with development and change.
- Complete and maintain reports using the FirePro Records Management System.
- Maintain the IamResponding response system.
- Liaise with the Regional District of Nanaimo Fire Service Coordinator.
- Liaise with other District 69 Fire Chiefs.
- Liaise with BCAS, RCMP, Provincial Conservation Officers, Arrowsmith Search & Rescue and BC Wildfire.
- Equipment purchasing.
- Maintenance of the firehall.
- Have knowledge of current legislation.
- Report to the Board of Trustees of the Bow Horn Bay Fire Department.

**Qualifications Required**:

- Reside in the Bow Horn Bay Fire Service area.
- Complete a criminal record check.
- Current British Columbia Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement Preferred Class 3.
- Provide a current driver’s abstract.
- Excellent skills in public speaking and verbal skills with subordinates.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 suite and OneDrive.
- Competent in the use and management of FirePro Records management software.
- NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II certification.
- NFPA 1041 Certified Fire Instructor.
- Certified VIERA Evaluator.
- Knowledge and training in the Incident Command System minimum ICS 100-200 Preferred 300.
- 10 years experience in a Command position (Captain, Deputy Chief, Fire Chief)
- Able to develop a good working relationship and communicate effectively with volunteers.
- Attain a Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner appointment.
