**Exercise/Recreation/Education Assistant for Disabled Young Man**

This position is rigorous, interesting, and unique. The job integrates elements of Physical, Occupational and Recreation and Therapy and Educational support.

The client uses a manual wheelchair for mobility and is currently a post-secondary education student.

This job entails implementing a hands-on program which includes: physical exercises to promote strength, flexibility, coordination, and independence
- a swimming program
- wheelchair skills
- computer skills - assistance with personal care
- recreational activities
- assisting with transfers
- education assistance (note-taking, document organization, etc)
- financial management assistance

Training and ongoing consultation will be provided.

**Location**: The location of the position is a home located about 4 minutes (by car or bus) from the Armdale Rotary in Halifax. The job also involves travel to and from school.

**Hours**:(37 hours per week daytime hours)

**Applicants must be available for the position for at least one year.**

**Pay**:$21-25/Hour ($777-$925 weekly)

**Qualifications**: - Excellent physical strength and health (young man weighs 133 pounds and requires assistance with all transfers, occasional lifting, his exercise program is physically demanding of the assistant)
- completion of undergraduate degree or current undergraduate student
- comfortable with assisting in personal care (dressing, toileting)
- creativity and problem-solving, patience
- ability to incorporate feedback into program
- skilled in computer usage

**Required**:

- Canadian Permanent Resident or Citizen
- current resident of Halifax Regional Municipality
- valid Driver's License and good driving record
- Criminal Record and Vulnerable sector check
- previous work experience with physically disabled is an asset but not required

**Salary**: $21.00-$25.00 per hour

Flexible Language Requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Halifax, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
