**Scope of position**:
The Director of Wellness (“DOW”) is responsible for the overall health, well being and care services delivered to all residents of the Home by the multidisciplinary care team members and ensuring the care services delivered is completed in accordance with the established nursing care plans and practices. Additionally, the DOW is responsible for ensuring that the services being delivered are reconciled with the fee schedules for the services. The DOW is also responsible for ensuring compliance with all levels of legislation.

**Key Responsibilities**

Marketing & Occupancy:

- To communicate with families, physicians and outside community health care agencies.

Resident Relations:

- To ensure that residents receive care to meet their needs.
- To monitor the well being of those residents who are not requiring care.
- To complete paperwork necessary for the admission and discharge of a resident, and on-going documentation.
- Effectively uses the nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating to provide high quality nursing care to the residents.
- Ensures that the resident, family members, and/or substitute decision makers are involved, where appropriate, in decisions affecting the resident’s care.
- Establishes priorities based on individual resident’s needs, scheduled activities and adjusts these priorities and activities to manage unanticipated events.

Leadership:

- Participates as a member of the care team and provides support to the other members of the team.
- To promote wellness among our residents.
- Involved with the hiring, performance management and training of staff who will be working directly with residents.
- To work alongside, monitor and supervise the members of the resident care team.
- Consults with and delegates appropriate activities to the members of the care team providing resident care and provides effective supervision.
- Is responsible for ensuring ongoing education is conducted for all direct reports on all pertinent legislative requirements, Company policies and industry best practices.
- Is able to assume the responsibilities of the General Manager in her absence.

Operational and Administrative Systems:

- Is responsible for the safe administration and storage of medication in the Home. Delegates where appropriate.
- Maintains accurate charts for each resident.
- Ensures a safe environment for the resident and/or his/her family.
- Refers reports and records pertinent information related to the resident’s care to other Health Care Team Members.
- Co-ordinates and/or carries out the action plan related to the prescribed care plan.
- Communicates effectively with physicians, pharmacy and other professional care providers.
- Collaborates with other members of the Care Team in the planning, provision and evaluation of services.
- Ensures that care services delivered are in accordance with all pertinent legislative requirements (i.e.: _The Retirement Homes Act, 2010_), Company policies and industry best practices.
- Provides necessary in-service training and orientation of new employees with the guidance of the General Manager.

Other:

- Is responsible for her/his own actions.
- Is responsible for maintaining and upgrading her/his competence related to the clinical practice and professional responsibility.
- Is aware of employees and supervisor’s responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures;
- Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, guests and residents;
- Is alert to, remedies, and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations.
- All other related duties as assigned

**Qualifications**

Education/Experience:

- A minimum of two years relevant experience.
- R.N. or RPN registered with the College of Nurses.

**Skills & Abilities**:

- A self-directed, accountable individual with experience in progressively responsible roles with proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time as well as lift heavy items

**Salary**: From $55,000.00 per year
