**Job purpose**
To lead the finance function of the Canadian entities, including central costs, during a period of ambitious growth. Take full ownership of month end processing, including preparation of monthly accounts (P/L, B/S, C/F and KPIs). The role is also responsible for the preparation of a detailed annual budget and regular reforecasts. Additionally, the role will identify opportunities to simplify/improve workflow processes and act as a business partner to provide commercial insights to the Canada Senior VP to drive growth and business performance. This role will also work closely with the group FD and FC in the absence of VP finance NA.
The Controller will be working remotely in Vancouver, Toronto, or Halifax while working in close partnership with other members of the finance team.
The Controller will be accountable for efficiency within the Canada finance function, including increasing process automation, reducing redundancy, and nationalizing roles for better alignment across campuses.
**Main Duties & Responsibilities**
In this role, you will be the business partner for the North American team, and will support critical business decisions, these include the regular business and as well as new launches and ventures. Lead finance systems implementation and integration, including Sage Intacct, Intrinsiq, Class systems
- Manage processing of all transactions for OIEG including purchase ledger (incl. float expenses), sales ledger (Students, agents, Progression Income, intercompany recharges), cash and agent commission
- Drive and coordinate month end closing, ensuring timely and accurate close
- Take full responsibility for preparation, production, and review of OIEG’s management accounts monthly including variance analysis (e.g., revenue, commissions, teaching costs, royalty fees) to budget/forecast, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
- Maintain strong financial control of OIEG balance sheets and working capital including cash flow
- Maintain the fixed asset register for Canadian entities
- Prepare monthly commentary/financial reports for all departments
- Review performance against KPIs (financial and operational)
- Lead year end audit process for OIEG including preparation of audit packs and liaison with auditors
- Monitor of GST threshold and register if reached
- Liaise with the business operations and admissions teams to ensure accuracy of sales invoicing
- Oversee and manage credit control processes through reviewing debtor balances and working closely with admissions to facilitate cash collection and minimize bad debts
- Prepare of budget and forecasts alongside Senior VP Canada and principals
- Advise the business on financial issues as required
- Provide business partnering support to the Senior VP Canada, principals and central cost budget holders, including producing month end reports
- Review and keep track of all accommodation and seasonal program contracts including cash flow management of deposits due and year end accruals for outstanding liabilities
- Maintain tight petty cash control especially during the seasonal programs and minimize the risk by arranging and monitoring alternative payment methods at centres
- Manage the online credit card portal for all OIEG issued corporate cards
- Raise monthly and annual intercompany invoices for central services
- Provide monthly exchange rates to the group finance team
- Liaise with HR and payroll to ensure accurate split of salary costs Team Management Responsibilities
