**Organization Background**

BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) is a non-profit continuing care association representing service providers in residential care, home care, assisted living and home support in British Columbia. **Energy Specialist Objectives**

To monitor client energy consumption, then develop strategies for cost-effective and energy efficient improvements to company operations that result in natural gas energy savings.

**Energy Specialist Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

The Energy Specialist will perform the following services with FortisBC**:

- Ensure company facilities and operational staff as required are fully aware of the energy efficiency, conservation incentives and education program
- Conduct inventory of natural gas fired equipment to determine eligible projects for incentives
- Explore and develop business cases around natural gas related projects
- Bring forward natural gas related projects for budget approval
- Execute natural gas projects and ensure programs are applied for and utilized
- Look for opportunities to explore energy efficient, innovative gas technologies
- Perform operational energy assessment and make recommendations on new systems, equipment, or work processes that will reduce energy consumption
- Create and share success stories with other energy management teams involved in the program
- Help coordinate and/or present any applicable employee awareness training
- Assist in other conservation and energy management related initiatives and projects
- Submit quarterly assessments outlining all current, completed and planned projects that will result in natural gas savings

**Minimum Education Recommended**
- BCIT: SEMAC (Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate)
- UBC: Masters in Clean Energy (Complete of the Demand-Side Energy Efficiency & Conservation Course
- Yorkville University: Energy Management Specialization
- Douglas College: Building Energy and Resource Management Program Certificate
- Langara: Energy Management Certificate
- Canadian Institute for Energy Training: Proof of Passing the Energy Manager Exam
- Equivalent Masters: Sustainability and Planning

**Further Education Recommended**
- LEED Professional Accreditation
- HVAC systems maintenance and management courses
- Carbon Footprint and Greenhouse Gas Emissions courses (CO2 + GHG)

**Required Skills**:

- Capital project management
- Customer service and/or sales
- Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm related to energy efficiency (work and/or volunteer experience)
- Familiarity and knowledge of energy efficient technologies (implementation of a project or course completion)
- Business case development and detailed report writing
- Ability to read and critique construction drawings and building assessment reports
- Ability to estimate costs for construction, renovation and repair projects
- MS Office Suite (intermediate to advanced)
- Communication, interpersonal and presentations skills
