**Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria Capital Region **(BBBSV) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that supports children and families through mentorship. The mandate of the organization is to make a difference in the lives of children by promoting their self-esteem, expanding their awareness of life’s opportunities, and providing them guidance and support through long term, one-to-one relationships with caring adult volunteers. We work with more than 600 children annually offering seven different programs across southern Vancouver Island. The agency is funded by grants, donations, fundraising events and our social enterprise, to meet the priorities of the agency.

THE POSITION

Reporting directly to the Director of Development, the Grant Writer is responsible for supporting the development department in grant writing and fundraising activities. This is a permanent part time position at 20 hours per week in a hybrid setting, potential to grow the role to full time. The starting salary for this role is $25 per hour.

ACCOUNTABILITY & REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Grant Writer will report directly to the Director of Development and work with the development associate and finance team to ensure accuracy of process and reporting is met. Meet and exceed goals for fundraising efforts set by the annual budget and as laid out in our strategic plan to grow our capacity.

OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core responsibilities include the full cycle of activities related to grants: identifying and qualifying prospective funders; expressions of interest, grant proposals, interim and final reports; ensuring accurate database records using the Donor Perfect platform; and working with stakeholders to actively engage granting partners across our service areas.

This role requires strong creative and persuasive writing skills and the ability to independently research compelling data in support of case-building. The Grant Writer has both an internal and external role and must be detail-oriented, have strong project management and follow-through skills, be able to prioritize multiple assignments, be highly organized and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree or equivalent in business, marketing, philanthropy, communications, creative writing, or related field or combination of related experience and education.
- 3 years of demonstrated experience in grant writing with in-depth knowledge of grant writing requirements. Accreditation with a related industry association is an asset.
- Strong computer and administrative skills, office 365 programs, donor management software and other digital platforms and data bases, preferable is Donor Perfect knowledge.
- Able to understand the budget requirements relating to grant materials.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills; able to multi-task and handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Research skills with ability to look for new areas and ideas of potential contacts, creative and open-minded.
- Ability to collect data, analyze and evaluate information while maintaining funding requirements and compliance.
- Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to edit and develop compelling and concise submissions and reports to all agency providers and supports.
- Ability to work with a small team with a flexible schedule, work independently and collaboratively to support the agency goals.
- Self-motivator with a professional approach, able to think independently with sound judgement.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with respect and discretion.
