Royal Roads University seeks a Grant Writer to play a critical role in the university’s fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Manager, Major Gifts, the Grant Writer will be part of an innovative team that works on all aspects of university fundraising. This position leads on funding from foundations and corporations and is results-focused with a goal to raise, with their team members, over $2 million a year.

The role requires strong creative and persuasive writing skills and the ability to independently research compelling data in support of case-building. The Grant Writer has both an internal and external role and must be detail-oriented, have strong project management and follow-through skills, be able to prioritize multiple assignments, be highly organized and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

The Grant Writer is collaborative and proactive, has the ability to effectively use independent judgment, and can produce quality work within tight time constraints. The incumbent is a self-motivated and committed individual with a track record of successful funding proposals.
- Job Requirements- Minimum of 5 years experience in relevant grant writing or similar fundraising roles.
- University degree in communications, creative writing, marketing, business or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- AFP, CFRE or CAGP accreditation is an asset.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to build concise and compelling narratives in plain language writing (grade 6).
- Strong oral communication and interview skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of grant writing requirements.
- Excellent research skills coupled with innovative and creative outside-the-box thinking; Ability to seek and synthesize information.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure timeliness and accuracy of content; Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Excellent computer skills and ability to navigate digital platforms.
- Understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants.
- Organizational and critical thinking skills
- Database experience and experience using non-profit tools and resources.
- Ability to balance working collaboratively while working independently to take initiative on projects.

- Additional Information- This is a regular, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This position has been evaluated at MPT-C with a salary range of $69,512 (minimum) to $81,690 (midpoint) to $93,867 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
