Created in 2015 to align, lighten and modernize infrastructure, the Technology and Infrastructure (T&I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections; between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.

This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.
Description
In addition to playing an advisory role (senior level expertise) in technical writing or technical communication, you are responsible for ensuring the quality, relevance and accuracy of documentation for maintenance staff working on systems used at CBC/Radio-Canada locations in English and French. You also ensure that documentation is continually updated and improved.
What’s more, you observe your work environment with an experienced eye and have a deep understanding of the challenges at hand, allowing you to develop and implement a consistent overall vision that aligns with the organization’s mission and values, while optimally meeting the needs of staff who use the documentation.
Key tasks:
- Review existing technical documentation (its structure, layout, content, etc.) and suggest improvements for making it clearer, more understandable and digestible, easier to follow and maintain, etc.).
- Support junior technical writers by informing them and coaching them on best practices in technical communication.
- Perform technical writing tasks, including creating or editing pages describing systems and environments, documenting potential issues, as well as drafting instructions for installing, configuring, testing and maintaining systems, and for solving common problems.
- Meet with or survey maintenance staff (main target audience for documentation) to gather feedback on the clarity, relevance and usability of the pages created.
- Meet with Engineering team experts to learn more about the features and operation of equipment, systems and environments at CBC/Radio-Canada, as well as to obtain relevant documentary material (diagrams, screenshots, etc.).
- Ensure that existing reference tools (such as templates and style guides) are used systematically by contributors so that all pages have a consistent look and feel.
- Promote and publicize documentation tools to maximize their use among all contributors.
- Ensure compliance with templates and the style guide, informing people of errors or correcting them yourself where applicable.
- Suggest improvements to existing templates and the style guide (updating, developing, expanding or correcting content as needed), ensuring they are applied and strictly followed in all current and future pages.
- Carry out any other technical communication task, such as writing and updating reference or instructional content in English and French, creating or editing images/diagrams illustrating the design or operation of systems or production flows, etc.
Desirable skills:
- Knowledge of a collaborative documentation tool (wiki) such as Confluence.
- Knowledge of task-tracking software such as Jira.
- Solid command of spoken and (especially) written English and French.
- Strong ability to organize information in a coherent manner.
- Familiarity with the terminology used in the fields of media production/broadcasting, computing and/or information technology.
- Ability to be self-motivated and self-directed.
- Attention to detail, diligence, efficiency and focus on continuous improvement.
