The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.

The Janitorial Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and supervising day-to-day activities of Janitorial team to ensure a clean and hygienic environment at the FBCL facilities and buildings at the Blue Water Bridge for the safety and pleasure of the occupants.

The incumbent ensures that the work is planned and performed in accordance with the team specific Level of Service documents and in compliance with FBCL policies, procedures and industry best practices. The Janitorial department comprises of a team of Janitors, responsible for keeping the assigned areas of FBCL property clean and healthy for the occupants.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

Delivery of Planned Work (50%)
- Ensure that the team adhere to the FBCL Health and Safety policies and procedures and have the required PPE in good working order
- Work closely with the team to make work plans for the upcoming week
- Forecast the upcoming work activities for a period of 3 months, updating the first week of month
- Discuss the weekly and quarterly work plans with the Maintenance Supervisor and other applicable team members on a weekly basis
- Present weekly work plans to the Manager, Facilities & Maintenance to ensure alignment with departmental goals
- Coordinate with and set firm dates with contractors for the purchase and delivery of supplies and consumables
- Communicate the work plans with internal and external stakeholders at least one week in advance
- Support the team with the execution of the planned work including problem solving support
- Monitor the execution of work plans against the set expectations and make timely corrections/adjustments to prevent delays (waste elimination)
- Monitor the quality of work in progress to prevent rework (waste elimination)
- Report and discuss the planned vs. actual work progress, variations and delays to the Manager, Facilities & Maintenance weekly and upon occurrence; and,
- Discuss the planned vs. actual work progress, variations and delays with the team weekly and upon occurrence.

Delivery of Unplanned Work (5%)
- Review extra work requests daily and prioritize: “Immediate”, “within-a-week” and “within-a
- month”
- Assign work requests prioritized to Janitorial team member(s) with an effort to keep the planned work unaffected, where possible; and,
- Include the work requests prioritized as within-a-month to the planned work plan

People Leadership (35%)
- Accountable for the supervision of Janitorial team ensuring work is scheduled and completed safely, efficiently and accurately
- Assist the team as needed working closely with them on a daily basis
- Accountable for the quality and quantity of work of the Janitorial team
- Responsible for scheduling duties as needed to address vacancies/deficiencies
- Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of team while on duty: Track overtime, back fill last minute sick calls, etc. as per Collective Agreement
- Recruit, train, coach, mentor and performance manage employees
- Ensure policies, goals, objectives, and procedures for department are adhered to
- Assign specific duties, supervise employees, review progress and quality of service, and coach team on correct procedures
- Walk the talk by acting as a role model and demonstrating leadership qualities such as:being first at setting the pace, mood and standard of performance

being fair by having no favourites, giving credit where its due and taking the heat when necessary
being firm by sticking to facts, policies/procedures, reach agreement by explaining all alternatives and consequences
being flexible by assuming the best of each team member, making room for good ideas and admitting when he/she is wrong
implement corrective action as necessary to resolve problems or complaints
- Based on the individual performance, determine training needs/gaps and propose remedial steps to close gaps
- Quarterly review compliance training matrix to ensure timely enrollment and completion of required/desired training prior to expiry
- Maintain currency of work schedule for the team
- Process time sheets of teams on a daily basis to avoid errors (waste elimination); and,
- Immediately bring to the notice of Manager, Facilities & Maintenance any Performance Management concerns, Accommodation Requests, Absence from Work and Health & Safety Incidents to determine alignment on appropriate next steps.
