**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Principal, ISNA High School**Primary function**:
***The Principal will provide leadership and administration which will motivate instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance with the objective of providing the best possible opportunities for student growth and development, both educationally and personally. The Principal shall also be responsible for all duties and responsibilities of a Principal as outlined in the
_Education Act _of Ontario. The Principal shall oversee the daily operations of the school, ensure curriculum is consistent with Islamic values and supervise school administrators, teachers and staff.

**Areas of responsibility**:
***In addition to the primary function, the High School Principal shall be responsible for:
Being an instructional leader, establishing high standards and expectations for the Ontario curriculum, Islamic values, and good citizenship in the High School community;- Ensuring compliance with all applicable Canadian and provincial laws, rules and regulations, High School and Board policies and procedures and Islamic protocols;- Developing and administering the general school routine; coordinating all activities during the regular school day;- Creating and maintaining strong relationships with parents, students, and the broader community, fostering a sense of partnership and collaboration;- Managing the staffing needs of the school;- Utilizing to the fullest extent possible, all available High School facilities, materials, and staff service personnel;- Continually evaluating existing programs and practices and curriculum content;- Encouraging a cooperative and participating attitude on the part of all teachers and students;- Maintaining a standard of student behavior designed to command respect and minimize interruptions;- Encouraging and initiating continued improvement in curriculum and teaching methods;- Identifying intellectual, physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs affecting students’ success and taking steps to direct/coordinate the efforts of teachers and parents with staff services and relevant educational personnel;- Participating in budget development and monitoring for the school;- Maintaining effective communication to keep the staff, students, and parents properly informed;- Actively participating and encouraging staff participation in parent-teacher and other community groups, as a means of developing understanding, cooperation, and respect for school objectives and endeavors;- Attending professional development opportunities and facilitating such opportunities for staff members;- Implementing all available and approved technological resources to enhance student learning; and- Leading and facilitating school promotion and fundraising activities.

**Qualifications**- Master’s Degree in Education;- A good standing member of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT);- At least 3-5 years as a Principal, Vice Principal or combination of;- Principal’s Qualification Program (PQP) Part I and II or a plan to complete within a reasonable timeframe; and- Additional qualifications (AQs) which support the school environment and future plans are considered an asset.

**Skills**- Excellent management, planning and organizational skills;- Highly successful experience working with Muslim communities;- Leadership experience with secondary school programs and contexts;- Demonstrating successful experiences leading innovative school improvement and student achievement initiatives;- Fostering a positive school climate that empowers others through shared decision making;- Experience leading and supporting various types of teams and learning approaches; and- Excellent collaboration, communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
