**Position Summary**:
The Career Development Centre exists within the Teaching & Learning portfolio that engages students and alumni in their career development as an integral part of the Laurier experience. This encompasses delivery of comprehensive programs and services that support experiential learning, career decision-making, employment preparation, facilitation of connections with the employer community, and pursuit of further education opportunities. Specific programs and services include: individual consultation and workshops on career planning, resumé writing, job search strategies, interview skills and further education; a Career Resource Centre; comprehensive employment services for full-time, summer and part-time opportunities for students and alumni; volunteerism; career-integrated learning in conjunction with campus partners; online resources; numerous events such as career panels, employment recruiting sessions, Job Fairs, Further Education Fair and Laurier Experience Record.

**Further Education and Employment Consulting**:
- Provide individual career, employment and educational consulting services to students and alumni. Staff and faculty are also eligible to access services.
- Establish rapport with clients, and identify client needs and priorities. The goal is to meet the needs of each client in a limited number of sessions, thereby maximizing availability of meetings to the greatest number of clientele.
- Encourage, motivate and provide tools so clients will take ownership of the process and exercise judgment in identifying additional areas of concern for clients and referring them to appropriate services such as academic advising and counselling.
- Assist clients in career planning and decision-making and assist clients to develop effective job search strategies by providing individual feedback on resumés, letters, job search strategies and interview techniques.
- Provide career information to assist clients in making decisions about current and future academic courses in relation to career plans.
**Programming and Events**:
- Develop specialized programs (workshops, fairs, etc.) with students, faculty or other staff groups. Facilitate program-planning meetings upon request and brainstorm programming ideas. Create customized content for programs.
- Ensure successful events at Laurier Brantford by meeting the needs of the students, participating organizations, and the campus. This involves selecting appropriate dates, venues, and student staff/volunteers. During the event, the incumbent oversees student staff/volunteers, solves problems, and networks with students and visitors.
**Maintain Career Information Resources**:
- Represent the Career Centre at a variety of campus events such as Open Houses for potential students, Information Fairs during Orientation Week, and Toast to the Class.
- Assist students and alumni in their career planning and job search efforts by co-ordinating a career information resource library.
- Identify and develop print and electronic resources related to career and employment issues, trends and opportunities.
- Consult with Waterloo Career Centre staff to stay current on new resources. Evaluate Brantford campus Career Centre needs on a regular basis.
