PLEA Community Services is currently seeking two (2)** Excluded Part-Time Group Facilitators **for the TransSupport program within our Ridge Meadows Youth Services team. The proposed start date for these term contracts is on April 2, 2024, and they will end on March 31, 2025.

Our TransSupport Program provides a safe space for youth to gather together. Through facilitated conversations youth are provided with the information, resources and advice they need to transition successfully. At the same time, in a separate room, parents and family members of transgender youth also meet to share their own experiences, offer support and to let others know that they are not alone. Our aim is to provide youth and their family members with safe, supportive and open environments so they can receive much-needed emotional and practical support as they navigate this life transition. The support groups are held in Burnaby, Tri-Cities and Ridge Meadows.

**Location**: Maple Ridge, BC

**Hours of Work**:The _usual_ hours of work are different for each of these positions and are as follows:

- Schedule 1: 5:00PM to 8:00PM on assigned group nights based on six 3-hour evening shifts per month (i.e. two Tuesdays and four Wednesdays).
- Schedule 2: 4:30PM to 9:30PM on assigned group nights based on six 5-hour evening shifts per month (i.e. two Tuesdays and four Wednesdays).

**Minimum Requirements**: a Diploma from a post-secondary institution in a related human/social services field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience:, one (1) and at least one (1) year of direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of facilitation skills and community-based programs.

**What You Will Do**:

- Organize and facilitate six TransSupport group sessions per month that support parents/caregivers of transgender youth in the North Fraser Region. Cultivate an environment that allows civil dialogue and input from all participants. Keep the group on topic and mediates any conflict that may occur.
- Assist with the promotion of the TransSupport group through a variety of initiatives intended to reach as many participants as possible.
- Manage and respond to inquiries about the group in a timely fashion.
- Coordinate the pre-planning, set-up and clean-up of the groups and manage the refreshment/food budget.
- Facilitate access to community resources and specialized services when required by youth and their families/caregivers to ensure they receive services that are integrated, timely and meet their identified needs.
- Maintain necessary program reports and statistics. Ensure that all records, reports, and documentation pertaining to service delivery are accurate, complete and in compliance with PLEA's policies and procedures.
- Upon prior approval from the Program Manager, purchase applicable resources and arrange for guest speakers to present to the group.
- Report any concerns that may arise from either the youth, or parent support, groups to the attention of PLEA Management.
- Attend monthly supervision meetings with the assigned Program Manager. Expenses that require reimbursement are to be submitted to the Program Manager at these meetings.
- Attend All Staff events whenever possible.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures established by PLEA and meets the performance expectation of the position in a manner that demonstrates compassion and respect for all persons served. Exercises the responsibilities of the position in a manner consistent with the philosophical approach and mandate of the program.
- Perform other related duties as required.

- Knowledge of theory, principles, and best practices with respect to providing services to the transgender community.
- Familiarity with local clinical access and options for transgender and/or gender diverse communities.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, counselling, facilitation, and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate and comprehensive written reports.
- Demonstrated proficiency in teaching others and an ability to work collaboratively with parents, partners and stakeholders that provide support to youth.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, enjoys the company of young people and an ability to present concepts to youth of a sensitive nature.
