**Duties**:
The primary role of the Visual Art Technician position is to provide technical assistance and safe access to Visual Art students, enabling and enhancing their creative and academic goals.

The Technician performs tasks on behalf of faculty members and has a key role in ensuring the Visual Art Program operates smoothly and safely.

The successful applicant will also work closely with our other Visual Art Technician, and to a lesser extent with the Graphic Design and Interior Design Technicians when necessary.

The main duties of the Visual Art Technician include the following:

- Demonstrates to students the safe and appropriate use of equipment, tools, materials, techniques, and processes.
- Advise students in solving technical problems.
- Maintains studios, workshops, tools, and equipment.
- Ensures a safe working and learning environment by adhering to WHMIS, WCB Regulations, and by following the University's occupational health and safety policies and procedures, and cooperates with the University's Health and Safety Services as required.
- Monitors a hazardous materials disposal program.
- Ensures the general cleanliness, safety, and security of the areas, including all Sculpture, Printmaking, and Photography studios and shops.
- In consultation with the Department Chair, and Faculty in the Sculpture, Printmaking, and Photography areas, researches and orders materials and monitors the stock of materials as necessary to support the operation of the shops and studios in these areas.
- Maintains a student sign-in and booking system for equipment and/or access to technician for assistance as directed by supervisor.
- Attends department meetings and presents information as requested.

**Required Qualifications**:

- BFA Degree or BA in a related field from an appropriately accredited institution.
- Practical experience with equipment, materials, and techniques related to contemporary Sculpture, Printmaking, and Photography.

**Required Skills**:

- Strong communication skills.
- Technical and practical knowledge of all equipment used in Sculpture, Printmaking, and Photography areas.
- The ability to make independent decisions within policies and guidelines.
- OFA Level One.
- Good physical condition with ability to lift and carry 22 kg.
