Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Economic Development
Coordinator is responsible for implementing and promoting the various economic
development initiatives, as developed in the Municipality of Meaford’s, Economic
Development Program. As assigned, the coordinator will promote the growth,
development, retention, and expansion of existing businesses, while investigating
initiatives to attract new business. The coordinator will be required to regularly
interface with internal departments, as well as liaise with the Municipality of
Meaford’s business community, the public, and government agencies. This position
will also act as a direct support to the CAO on community matters.

Role Specific

**Responsibilities**:
1. Assist in the development and implementation of the economic development
program.

2. Work collaboratively with partners in economic driver industries, to include
tourism, agriculture, and construction, supporting industry trends, strengths,
and opportunities for shared success.

3. Implementation of municipal goals and objectives and policies/procedures
relating to economic activities and programs.

4. Prepare periodic reports relating to progress towards goals and objectives in
key areas such as tourism and development. Prepare and present analytical
and statistical reports on community operations and activities as needed.

5. Assist with business retention and expansion strategies, including fostering
relationships, addressing concerns, providing strategies for appropriate
growth and assist in the facilitation through municipal processes and policies.

6. Work in collaboration with the Communications and Marketing department to
develop marketing and information materials appropriate to ongoing
developments, activities, and programs in the community.

7. Facilitate Municipal involvement and investment toward Grey County
programming and partnerships.

8. Work collaboratively with the Development Services department to position
Meaford as development ready, including undertaking research on various
matters.

9. Coordinate and lead the Community Improvement Plan process, including
Council.

10. Represent the Municipality at external groups such as the Grey County
Economic Development Group, Southern Georgian Bay Tourism Association,
Meaford Chamber of Commerce, and the Meaford Business Association
Board.

11. Participate in the preparation and administration of the economic
development program budget.

12. Coordinate and work with outside agencies and professional consultants on
economic development matters as required.

13. Provide support in the development and enhancement of the Economic
Development portion of the Municipal Website.

14. Provide general customer service and serve as a contact to residents,
brokers, landowners, prospects, retailers, developers, and organizations
acting as an advocate for business, tourism, and community efforts.

15. Set-up and maintain files, prepare correspondence, and other administrative
duties relating to economic development as required.

16. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

General Duties and Accountabilities (All Municipal Roles)

1. Provide and maintain a high degree of confidentiality and security of
information at all times. Where information is developed prior to staff/public
release, ensure confidentiality of information provided to produce content for
Council and other sensitive information sources._ _

2. Work in compliance with the _Occupational Health and Safety Act_, and other
applicable legislation, department policies/procedures/practices, operational
guidelines, and perform safe work practices.

3. Other duties may be assigned in accordance with department and corporate
objectives.

Required Certifications and/or Health and Safety Requirements

1. Valid ‘G’ class license in good standing.

Education, Skills and Experience

1. Post-secondary degree in public or business administration, marketing,
economic development, public relations, communications, or another related
field.

2. Minimum 1 year experience in economic development, tourism, marketing,
or closely related field, preferably in a municipal environment.

3. Knowledge of economic development practices, strategic planning and
execution methodologies, change management methods and practices.

4. Experience with community engagement platforms, survey development and
event planning considered an asset.
