Job Description: First Cook

There's a new restaurant coming to Truro We are currently under renovations and we are looking to be up and running the beginning of September.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, ensuring adherence to standardized recipes, portion sizes, quality standards, and food safety guidelines.

2. Assist the Sous Chef and Head Chef in supervising and training kitchen staff members, providing guidance, coaching, and feedback to maintain a high level of performance and professionalism.

3. Coordinate food production, ensuring timely preparation and delivery of all menu items to meet customer demand and maintain smooth kitchen operations.

4. Oversee food presentation and garnishing to ensure dishes are visually appealing and meet established standards.

5. Monitor and maintain inventory levels, including proper storage, rotation, and utilization of ingredients to minimize waste and control costs.

6. Assist in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, including equipment maintenance, sanitation schedules, and compliance with health and safety regulations.

7. Collaborate with the Sous Chef and Head Chef in menu planning and development, considering customer preferences, seasonality, and cost-effectiveness.

8. Assist in conducting regular inspections of food stations and storage areas to ensure cleanliness, proper rotation, and adherence to sanitation standards.

9. Support the Sous Chef and Head Chef in implementing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for food preparation, presentation, and kitchen operations.

10. Stay updated with industry trends, new cooking techniques, and ingredients to contribute to menu innovation and bring creativity to the culinary offerings.

**Requirements**:
1. Proven experience as a First Cook or similar role in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

2. Strong culinary skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques and cuisines.

3. Familiarity with food safety practices and HACCP guidelines.

4. Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

5. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work efficiently under pressure.

6. Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality dishes.

7. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required in the food service industry.

8. Culinary degree or relevant certification is a plus.

**Salary**: $17.00-$19.00 per hour

**Experience**:

- Cooking: 2 years (required)

Licence/Certification:
