Job Summary

The Knowledge Communications Coordinator plans, develops and manages the promotion and dissemination of the research carried out by Balanced Supply of Housing (BSH) Node funded projects conducted by university researchers, academic, public, private, and community partners across Canada. The coordinator acts as a liaison between outlets of knowledge dissemination, and the university and partners. As part of this role, the coordinator is responsible for analyzing researcher and partner needs, and developing plans to aid in the communication of findings so that information may be quickly and easily accessible to broader members of the public.

Organizational Status

The Balanced Supply of Housing (BSH) Node of the Canadian Housing Evidence Collaborative brings together researchers and practitioners from Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. The goal of the BSH Node is to produce innovative research that supports policy decision-making at all levels of government, including for the National Housing Strategy. It also works to prioritize addressing inequalities in the housing system that marginalize equity deserving groups such as those who are lower income residents, renters, Indigenous people, immigrants, racial minorities, or women. To achieve this, the Node is investigating patterns and solutions relating to the financialization of housing and responsible land use practices.

The Knowledge Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Director, HART+HRC and works in collaboration with the HRC-BSH Research Project Manager.

Work Preformed:
Internal Coordination- Responsible for knowledge communication of BSH projects,- Chair some meetings and do the necessary follow-ups for the realization of communication projects- Coordinate BSH meetings for researchers and partners to discuss research findings and communication needs to bring research forward;- Create and update a communication plan on the promotion of current projects and events of BSH, provide implementation guidance and distribute communicating tasks among team members;- Recommend tools or processes to facilitate and standardize the work of the communications team;- Meets regularly with the Principal Investigator and the Knowledge Mobilization Co-Chairs to update them on progress to date and identify new opportunities for knowledge dissemination and exchange;

External Coordination- Coordinate and manage consultants and volunteers who can aid in the dissemination of knowledge through public speaking, improvement of the BSH website, research summaries and infographics, and/or other activities as identified;- Identify potential collaborations between BSH and external organizations that can spread knowledge developed by the BSH;- Collaborate with external partners to implement knowledge mobilization and communication strategies;- Works with external contractor, spacing radio, to oversee the BSH podcast- Manages the coordination of the BSH research in progress series- Plans and manages events organized by BSH and provides guidance on their successful implementation- Identifies and coordinate media opportunities for researchers and project partners;- Develop communications strategy and key messaging for events and report releases;

Digital Communications- Reviews research findings and develops plain language summaries and outputs- Identifies and executes knowledge mobilization opportunities through the use of Canva and other online tools to support the dissemination of BSH research-
