Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for managing and administering service areas of program support for individuals with disabilities. This position oversees staffing and supervision, planning, budgeting and financial management, policy and program development for this area.
The Program Director ensures that all individual support is carried out with the best interest of the individual at the forefront as well as in an ethically responsible manner.
The Program Director works closely with the Executive Director in developing and maintaining an overall knowledge and involvement in all aspects of management of the agency and acts as director in her/his absence.
The Program Director may be involved with the board as requested.
1. Specific
**Responsibilities**:
a. Staffing and Supervision
- Ensure an effective staffing model that sets clear and specific job responsibilities and is in harmony with the overall staffing model of the agency.
- Ensure staff performance is adequately monitored and regularly evaluated.
- Promote open communication and team building.
- Encourage the ongoing development and growth of staff.
- Provide the necessary support and leadership for staff at all times.
- Monitor the development and implementation of staff training plans in accordance with identified staff training needs.
- Delegate authority as necessary and clearly outline responsibilities.
b. Planning
- Participate in planning at the board level and assist in developing clear visions of the future and specific goals.
- Participate, as a member of the senior leadership team, in the development of strategies to meet the goals developed by the Board of Directors. Ensure these are communicated throughout the organization.
- Assist staff and individuals in understanding the planning process and promote their involvement as appropriate.
- Ensure services are adequately monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis.
c. Policy Development
- Assist in the ongoing development and monitoring of policies and procedures in the areas of operation, personnel, finance and others as determined by the Blue Heron board and Executive Director.
- Ensuring Individual funding proposals are developed to meet the needs of the Individuals.
- Advocate for the development of community support services as appropriate and necessary.
d. Budgeting and Financial Management
- Annually, and in consultation with the Executive Director, provide program projections based on planning priorities for the program area(s) of responsibility.
- Assist in negotiating contracts and fundraising as requested by the board and Executive Director.
- Monitor budget and assist in the development of contingency plans as necessary.
- Ensure financial policies and procedures are implemented adequately and ethically as applicable and provide input on policy and procedure revisions.
- Develop, or lead the development, of funding/grant proposals relative to projected service needs.
e. Liaison
- Establish and maintain effective communication with Guardians/family members of individuals.
- Promote working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Represent the organization at community functions in order to promote community awareness of Blue Heron Support Services Association (BHSSA) and its purpose.
- Ensure the development of effective promotional and service materials.
- Represent the organization regionally and provincially as requested.
f. Teamwork
- Attend all team meetings, sessions and general staff meetings.
- Work effectively with team members in a positive and professional manner.
- Act as a resource for information necessary to the team in the support of the individual.
- Uphold responsibilities to colleagues as per Employee Code of Ethics
g. Individual Support
- Be responsible for the admission/exit process,
- Ensure quality of service for individuals through effective communication with stakeholders. Be available to individuals/parents/guardians for informal contact, for discussion of concerns or appreciation and for informal or formal grievance.
h. Program Development and Implementation
- Identify long term program needs and develop and implement strategies for addressing them.
- Ensure that development programs are planned, implemented and monitored.
- Identify long-term program needs to executive director and Blue Heron board.
- Ensure compliance with certification and accreditation standards.
i. Teamwork
- Attend all sessions and general staff meetings and team meetings when required.
- Attend and participate in Leadership meetings and trainings as related to this position
- Facilitate trainings for Leadership team when requested.
- Work effectively with team members in a positive and professional manner.
- Act as a resource for information necessary to teams in regards to Human resource issues.
- Uphold responsibilities to colleagues as per Employee Code of Ethics
