**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
**POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY**:
This is a short-term pilot to gather data to support the initiation of a housing navigation program pilot at the arc. The incumbent will work directly with clients over 60 who have been living in transitional housing for at least 6 months. The position will gather information and resources on available housing options for low
- income men who have had a period of housing instability. The incumbent will work to develop a housing plan, operationalize the housing plan and assist them to obtain and maintain community housing. This is a pilot program that will gather data to support the need of a long-term housing development program that will work with transitional housing clients to transition out of housing instability to a housed, healthy and community connected lifestyle.
**BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The position is accountable for the development and delivery of a housing navigation program over the next five months to gather data and test the viability of an on-going program.
Written and Verbal Communication:
- Develop a list of affordable housing options and private accommodations available in the greater Victoria area for client at the ARC.
- Develop relationships with low-income housing operators and private landlords.
- Assist clients to develop a housing plan and provide guidance for achieving goals and results.
- Provide one-to-one housing coordination and advocacy for clients who are 60+ and have been living in transitional housing for 6 months.
- Assist clients to set up their new home and help them settle in the community.
- Assist individuals to access key community supports.
- Connect individuals with financial assistance for obtaining and maintaining housing.
- Run ready to rent sessions with clients.
- Assist clients with financial household budget planning and financial literacy.
- Support key stakeholders in understanding the implications of options and decisions.
- Provide follow-up support in first months of housing to advocate or intervene as needed to maintain housing arrangements.
Reporting:
- Create and maintain data and reporting as required by funding contract.
- Complete pre and post-surveys with clients.
- Support the development of reporting requirements for funding organization.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

**Education/Certifications**:
- Bachelor of Social Work or equivalencies with significant recent work experience required.
- Clear criminal record check through the BC Criminal Record Review Program required.
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent required.
- Clear TB Skin Test required.
**Experience**:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience working with the unhoused population.
- 1-year experience working in housing related social services and/or 1-year experience working with men over 60 on housing related concerns.
- 1-year experience developing relationships in the social services sector and/or rental sector
- Solid knowledge of the area housing market is an asset.
- Clear understanding homelessness, addictions, and housing issues in the Victoria area is an asset.
**Required Skills/Knowledge**:
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- Ability to provide comprehensive case management services to clients, assessing their needs and developing personalized housing plans.
- Proficiency in using motivational interviewing techniques to inspire and empower clients to work towards their housing goals.
- Strong knowledge of the local housing market, including available resources, housing options, and affordability.
- Ability to advocate for clients' housing rights and represent their interests in interactions with landlords, housing authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
