Surrey, Canada Brella Community Services Society Full time

Brella Community Services Society is a successful recipient of funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada, under the “Dementia Strategic Fund: Awareness Raising Initiatives”. Our project, entitled “Please Be Patient: I’m Still Me”, recognizes that a person with dementia is still a person with a life worth living and encourages the community to shift mindsets and facilitate better quality of life for that person. The project consists of a series of in-person and online community events aimed at creating awareness about dementia, deconstructing mental models, reducing barriers and fostering more dementia inclusive communities. The project outcomes are: (1) advancement of top priorities of the Dementia Strategy for Canada, (2) heightened awareness of dementia in communities across Canada and shift in attitudes and behaviours, (3) social participation and improved quality of life for people with dementia and their care partners, (4) development of partnerships focused on developing dementia inclusive communities, and (5) reduction in self-stigma resulting in early intervention to manage symptoms of dementia.
