About the role
On-site | Full-time
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of the facilities, including areas just outside of the facilities. This includes routine cleaning tasks, supply management, minor maintenance duties, and collecting and disposing of trash both indoors and outdoors. The custodian will ensure a safe and sanitary environment for employees and visitors.
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Cleaning and Sanitation: Regularly clean kitchen and coffee stations, lunchroom, and staff lounge, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting surfaces, such as fridges, coffee machines, and microwaves.
- Restroom Maintenance: Ensure bathrooms are stocked with supplies (soap, toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer) and kept clean and dry.
- Common Areas: Maintain cleanliness in shared spaces, including the Sample Prep Lab, training room, gym, shower areas, reception, boardrooms, and meeting rooms.
- Waste Management: Collect trash, recycling, and organic waste removal, ensuring proper disposal.
- Supply Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of maintenance supplies, replenishing stock as needed, and escalating orders for restocking, ensuring timely reporting to avoid any disruptions in operations.
- Minor Maintenance: Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and repairing window blinds as instructed.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to ALS health and safety regulations to maintain a safe work environment, reporting any hazards or unsafe acts to the Facilities Manager. This includes observations of contractors not performing cleaning tasks to standard or behaviour contrary to ALS values.
- Event Support: Assist with setting up, cleaning, and breaking down for events and meetings as required.
- Reporting: Report any damages or maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager promptly.

**About you**:

- Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and the ability to work independently without supervision.
- Ability to follow directions, safety policies and procedures, and SOPs.
- Familiarity with cleaning products, equipment, and techniques
- Adept at standard clerical work and basic computer use.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Grade 12 graduation certificate or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience.

**Physical Demands**:

- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.
- Ability to lift up to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
- Extensive walking or movement, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
- Comfortable in environments with high noise levels.
- Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
- Work under pressure.
