**CUSTODIAN casual on call**
- **Nature and Scope of Work **_

This is manual work of limited complexity in performing recurrent and defined janitorial and custodial duties at the various North Shore Neighbourhood House Centres. The work may include the minor maintenance of heating and ventilation equipment; simple repairs, the securing of the building and activating of the alarm system. Duties are performed to an established schedule and latitude of judgment is used to alter the schedule as required, to ensure that priority areas are cleaned. The work is regularly reviewed to ensure conformity with the established standard of cleanliness.
- **Illustrative Examples of Work **_

Performs a variety of cleaning duties such as:
Sweeping, mopping, washing, waxing, stripping and polishing floors, hallways and stairs; washing walls, counters and windows, washing hand basins, sinks and toilets, replenishing supplies; vacuuming and shampooing rugs; garbage disposal.

Performs a variety of building maintenance tasks such as;
Replacing locks, door closures and windows; plumbing disorders; replacing lights and fixtures; painting; minor repairs to furniture, equipment, shelving and cupboards; minor repairs to walls, ceilings and flooring; general maintenance to equipment.

Secures the building and activates the alarm system.

Sets up tables and chairs for scheduled events; moves or provides furniture or equipment; locks and unlocks doors as well as providing assistance to members of the public.

Resets fire alarms and pull stations.

Checks, cleans and maintains grounds and yard.

Performs minor, routine servicing to heating and ventilation systems as directed.

Maintains written cleaning schedule.

In consultations with supervisor, provides on-site assistance to contractors or City employees doing work with the North Shore Neighbourhood House.

Performs related work as required.
- **Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills **_

Sound knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in providing janitorial services.

Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, staff and members of the public.

Sufficient strength and stamina to perform the duties.
- **Desirable Training and Experience **_

Completion of Grade 10, ability to read, write, understand and follow instructions; completion of a B.S.W. course plus experience in janitorial and custodial work, or related work; or, a suitable combination of training and experience.
- **Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations **_

Valid B.C. Driver’s License

Emergency First Aid Certificate

**Required Availability**:
Evenings (5:00pm-12:30am) and Saturdays (8am-4pm)

**Job Type**: Casual

Pay: $21.10 per hour
