Gitd Venue Technical Coordinator

Reporting to the Executive Director, and supervised by the Production and Event Services Coordinator, the Venue Technical
Coordinator provides technical services to support all events and activities within the Granville Island Theatre Districts’
stewarded venues: The Waterfront Theatre, Performance Works, and The Nest. As required, maintains a presence on site
and/or operates technical equipment during performances, exhibitions, and events. This role is governed by the IATSE 118
the stewarded venues. Applies a thorough technical knowledge of all aspects of technical event production including
lighting, audio, video, rigging, and stage carpentry, to ensure the provision of high-quality technical services and support for
all users. Provides expertise, training, direction, and assistance to Associate Technicians, and acts as the group lead
responsible for coordinating the work of technical staff in the operation, installation, direction, and maintenance of
technical equipment and systems. Lead Technicians are ambassadors for the Society when dealing with rentals,
presentations, and volunteers.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Facilitate the delivery of technical services to support all events and activities within the GITD’s Venues.
- Maintains and applies a thorough knowledge of venue equipment and technical practices to ensure the protection,
quality, and longevity of equipment and materials, and ensure the safety of all venue staff and users. Provides
expert delivery of technical services for at least one of GITD’s Venues.
- Maintains and applies a thorough understanding of production timelines in the execution of duties, and in the
coordination of Associate Technicians.
- Review lighting paperwork, ground plans and sound documents to prepare instructions to Associate Technicians.
- Interprets CAD plans, plots, and schematics necessary for the facilitation of production requirements.
- Operate lighting, AV, and sound systems for theatres.
- Provides expertise, training, direction, and assistance to Associate Technicians in the correct installation and
operation of lighting and audio consoles, lighting instruments and equipment, audio equipment, projectors,
cabling, hardware, and other such devices.
- Provides expertise, training, direction, and assistance to Associate Technicians in the correct operation of
personnel lifts, ladders, dollies, risers, platforms, decking, drapery, pulleys, ropes, cables, staging, tables, chairs,
masking, etc.
- Provides expertise, training, direction, and assistance in the installation of scenic and display elements required for
performances, exhibitions, and events. Applies a thorough knowledge of venue capabilities to ensure a safe
environment for performers, audience, participants, and staff.
- Reports deficiencies in venue equipment.
- Communicates with Service Providers regarding Operational requirements, as required.
- Maintains knowledge of the maintenance requirements of systems.
- Coordinate activities with Front of House Managers on-shift. As required, Coordinate the opening and closing of
audience doors, communicate when the venue is ready to accept audiences and when the performance is going to
begin, to ensure the timely execution of scheduled events.
- Organize and maintain the backstage, storage and technical areas of the venue.
- Maintain safety standards, practices and policies.
- Prepares production and show reports for all events by monitoring and recording any complications, issues, or
problems that arise.
- Upholds the values of IATSE and works within the rules laid out by the collective agreement.
**Qualifications**:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Proficient in programming and operation of computer lighting boards (ETC ION and Element) and all components
of the lighting system.
- Proficient at reading stage plots, patching mics, EQing, mixing bands
- Basic proficiency in QLab (editing, mixing, programming).
- Proficient in video projector operation and focus using the house projector.
- Able to interpret CAD plans, plots, and schematics necessary for the facilitation of production requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety and Work Safe BC protocols and practices in addition to
the safety protocols standard to the performance and theatre industries.
- Able to work heights, including on Trestle ladder.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task with little supervision.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, and work calmly under pressure.
- Excellent client and artist communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent customer service and client relations skills.
- Ability to coordinate the work of others in a fast-paced environment with strict timelines.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
