Health Promoter

Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a non-profit, multi-service, community-based organization that serves communities in Rexdale and North-West Etobicoke. Operating out of three locations, RCHC offers core services that include; primary health care, health promotion, community development programs, Pathways to Education and Diabetes Education Centre.
The Health Promotor will be responsible for developing, implementing and facilitating policies and programs to increase awareness of RCHC programs and services, design strategies to address health issues that affect the community and support identification of Rexdale area community needs and priorities.
**Responsibilities**:
- Assesses community needs and analyzes information with respect to community health issues
- Develops and executes advocacy tactics to advance the Rexdale community’s public policy objectives, including digital and in-person stakeholder coordination, supporting meetings with elected representatives, media relations, and coalition development
- Coordinates community engagement and capacity building activities including research and policy focused seminars, workshops, and engagement initiatives
- Designs, Implements and scales health promotion programs across the province
- Collects and utilizes data to advocate for provincial funding and fundraising initiatives; review and synthesize findings for CHCs Executive Leadership to review
- Design and Implement social media campaigns to engage key stakeholders, funders and the community
- Act as a resource for community groups by facilitating workshops, seminar, information sessions or groups; by providing consultation, referrals and information, and by advocating on behalf of or for groups in the community.
- Experience in successful grant writing
- Conduct outreach, develop community engagement plans, organize community engagement events, execution of special events, and keep pre and post event details.
- threSubmit program statistics and reports on a timely basis.
- Identify and implement improvement strategies and best practices to support community engagement process.
- Maintain records and statistical data in a timely fashion, for the purposes of producing reports and preparation of final community engagement report.
- Coordinates with purchase of service and contract staff.
- Perform other duties and committee work as assigned.
- Adhere to the Centre’s policies and procedures, including confidentiality, AODA, and health and safety policies.
**Qualifications**:
- A post-graduate degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Adult Education or a combination of at least three years related work experience and relevant education;
- Three to five years’ work experience in a Health Promotion or Community Development position working in a culturally and racially diverse community.
- Strong political acuity and deep knowledge of social policy issues relating to poverty and food insecurity
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with a diversity of people, including people experiencing poverty and food insecurity, donors, government officials, community partners and the public
- Experience managing projects from inception to completion including developing timelines, sequencing tasks and identifying and mitigating risks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
- Proven leadership, consultation and collaboration skills;
- Ability and proficiency in program and policy planning, implementation and evaluation strategies;
- Good problem solving skills, networking, organization and advocacy skills
- Excellent interpersonal, decision-making, problem solving and conflict management skills;
- Demonstrated flexibility, organizational and time management skills in a high pressure environment.
- Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends;
- Knowledge of the Rexdale community is considered an asset
- Ability to speak a second language (e.g. Spanish, Punjabi, Urdu and Somali) will be an asset.
- Experience managing project budgets
- Experience supervising/ mentoring staff, students or volunteers
**Salary**: $64,046 to $77,161 (based on experience)
