**Job Summary**:
The Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) is a vital member of our care team and is responsible for supporting the nursing staff in ensuring the delivery of high-quality resident care and services. This role includes a blend of hands-on nursing care, staff management, and program oversight. The ADOC will provide direct care, manage and support nursing staff, administer medications, and oversee the implementation of key healthcare programs, including personal hygiene, continence care, fall prevention, infection control, and medication management.
Example of duties include:
1. Direct Nursing Care:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to residents, including assessments, care planning, and implementation of care plans.
- Administer medications, monitor resident responses, and document outcomes according to nursing standards and policies.
- Assist in the coordination of resident care activities, ensuring individualized care plans are followed.
2. Medication Management:
- Oversee and participate in medication administration, ensuring accurate dispensing and documentation.
- Monitor the effectiveness of medications, report adverse effects, and collaborate with healthcare providers to adjust treatments as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with medication policies and procedures, including secure storage and proper handling of medications.
3. Staff Management:
- Assist the Director of Care in managing the nursing team, including Registered Practical Nurses and (UCP) and Resident Attendant, (RA).
- Provide guidance, support, and performance feedback to staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
- Lead nursing daily huddle and manage day shift priority.
- Assist in creating staff schedules and managing daily workflow to maintain adequate staffing levels.
4. Training and Education:
- Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of nursing staff, including best practices in care delivery.
- Conduct in-service training sessions to educate staff on personal hygiene, continence care, infection prevention, fall prevention, and medication management.
- Promote continuous learning and development among the care team to enhance the quality of resident care.
5. Personal Hygiene Program:
- Oversee the personal hygiene program, ensuring residents receive the necessary assistance with bathing, grooming, and dressing while maintaining their dignity and comfort.
- Conduct regular audits of personal hygiene care and provide coaching to staff as needed.
6. Continence Care Program:
- Implement and manage the continence care program, including assessments, individualized care plans, and monitoring of outcomes
- Ensure staff are trained in the proper techniques and use of continence products to support resident independence and comfort.
7. Fall Prevention Program:
- Co-lead monitor fall prevention strategies to minimize the risk of falls and injuries among residents.
- Conduct regular assessments and safety checks, and work with staff to implement interventions to promote resident safety.
8. Infection Prevention and Control:
- Assist in infection prevention efforts, including implementing protocols, conducting audits, and educating staff on infection control best practices.
- Monitor for outbreaks and collaborate with the healthcare team to manage and contain infectious diseases effectively.
9. Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of resident care, medication administration, and program outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and policies to meet all healthcare and safety requirements.
10. Qualifications:
- Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Previous experience in long-term care or a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, personable.
- GPA certified
- Strong English communication both in written and verbal
- Ability to work effectively in a team and provide direction and support to staff.
- Proficient in care planning, medication management, and implementing healthcare programs.
11. Working Conditions:
- May involve direct care duties that require lifting, bending, and other physical activities.
- Full-time rotation for Day shift (hours may vary between 7 to 6) based on operation needs and move-in or return from hospital.
