**Overview**

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. It is the first national museum in Canada to be built outside the National Capital Region. Located in the heart of Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the CMHR rises from the Prairie earth at The Forks, which has been a meeting place for over six thousand years.

The CMHR delivers an immersive, interactive and memorable experience for visitors of every background, age and ability. Each visitor has access to a fully reinvented museum experience that reflects a design approach that sets new Canadian and world standards for inclusion and universal accessibility.

**_ Purpose of Position_**

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is centered around the idea that respect and understanding of human rights can serve as a positive force for change in the world. The Interpreter will collaborate with others in the organization to support our collective efforts to build a workplace culture that is inclusive, equitable, innovative and focused on inspiring action.

Reporting to the Manager, Program Delivery, with daily supervision by Assistant Managers, Interpreters deliver in-person and virtual tours focused on Museum exhibits and human rights content to a wide range of audiences in order to provide engaging and meaningful visitor experiences and opportunities for learning, dialogue and reflection. The incumbents will be strong and thoughtful communicators, critical thinkers and innovators, and will bring a collaborative approach to their role.

**_ Key Responsibilities_**
- Contributes to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models anti-racist and accountable behaviours.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge and familiarity with the Museum’s content.
- Delivers onsite and virtual education programs to school-aged children from grades K-12.
- Delivers onsite and virtual public tours on a variety of human rights-related themes to a wide variety of audiences.
- Delivers various activities and events, including talks, demonstrations, workshops and hands-on interactions in the Museum to school groups, professional groups and the general public.
- Delivers targeted presentations and activities on specific topics for specialized audiences, partners and stakeholders.
- Facilitates discussion and dialogue and employs appropriate techniques to de-escalate emotional situations.
- Leads and delivers programs employing informal and formal learning pedagogy, dialogue techniques and approaches.
- Assists visitors navigate the Museum’s mobile program and other in-gallery media programs to participate in digital content offered on various platforms.
- Provides feedback on the quality and effectiveness of programs to leadership.
- Acts as Gallery Host to fill gaps as required.
- Participates in program development and evaluation, as well as idea generation activities, and provides program delivery expertise in various stages of program development (as assigned).
- Provides operational support for programs and activities throughout all Museum spaces. This may include moving furniture, setting up equipment, preparing props and program materials.
- Other duties as assigned.

**_ Required Qualifications_**
- Minimum of 2 years of studies in human rights, history, museum studies, education or another relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant area.
- Experience delivering interpretation or education programs for a museum, school, historic site or related cultural or educational organization or attraction.
- Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion and dignity for all.
- Strong oral presentation and communication skills with the ability to accurately inform, engage and encourage participation.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous or changing situations, and with diverse individuals and groups.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to communicate in both official languages (French and English)

**_ Desired Qualifications_**
- Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams) and search engine apps (iPad).
- Knowledge of interpretation theory and best practices.
- Experience delivering and/or moderating digital programs and presentations on a variety of platforms (including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet).
- Knowledge of Canadian history.
- The ability to communicate in additional languages, spoken or visual (e.g., ASL or LSQ).
