JOB STATEMENT

Catering staff are the principle point of contact for our catering clients and, as such, reflect the entire Catering operations. Interacting with clients and accommodating their needs in a positive & supportive way whilst providing quick and efficient service are of paramount importance. Catering staff are responsible for the successful execution of catered events including banquets, receptions, meetings and drop-offs. The Supervisor is required to ensure the above point with catering staff while also assuming the main contact role for clients and proper operations should the catering manager not be present

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Catering Supervisor will be asked to, in addition to the regular catering functions:

- Process Catering Order forms and prepare all smallwares and display materials for execution of events
- Be the principle point of contact for clients when the catering manager is not present.
- Supervise catering staff to ensure proper operations and provide direction
- Check on our guests and problem solve any issues our guests may have
- Monitor costs and staffing ensuring reductions of staffing as needed
- Maintain all equipment & smallwares and notify manager if any repairs or replacements need to be executed
- Work with Kitchen & Management teams and become an effective group contributor and supporter of our positive work environment and work effectively with your fellow colleagues
- Any other tasks as assigned from time to time by the Catering or General Manager.

- Appear and present yourself in a very hospitable and friendly manner while keeping service professional at all times.
- Ensure only the highest quality food, Beverage & service reaches our guests in accordance too all pre-established standards & specifications.
- Ensure thorough knowledge of the steps of service and how they affect you and the guests.
- Your service, procedures and timing must adhere to specified goals and reflect a commitment to maximizing the effectiveness of the operation. Anticipation of guests needs, wants and preferences do avoid delays and to address concerns before they are communicated.
- Assist other caterers & bartenders to perform more effectively. You should always be honest but respectful in your comments to your team members.
- Be aware of the relationship between costs and prices and know that needless wasting of product & time increases the cost to our guests.
- Continually strive to improve the quality of service and present yourself as a professional employee of the Underground at all times.

**PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT**
- Create meaningful goals & objectives and identify the leadership & career competencies you gain through your experiences at the Underground
- Lean to transfer your experiences and gained skills to your professional development and future employment and /or education
- Meet regularly with your direct manager to report and reflect on your progress and personal development throughout your employment and receive valuable feedback for growth.

**LEARNING OUTCOMES**
- Each staff member will attend a mandatory orientation & training session before the first shift of scheduled work alongside staff members, this will take place over two days covering all areas & topics that staff members will require to begin work.
- Each new staff member will receive a follow up evaluation meeting to be determined by the direct manager after the mandatory 3 month probationary period to address work performance, provide feedback and to develop a long term developmental plan
- Returning staff will receive evaluation / support meeting as determined by the direct manager depending on time duration worked as well as frequency of shifts worked
- Key outcomes of YUSC are focused on but not limited to development of team work and group interactions, expansion of social and academic network with fellow students and work colleagues, time management, business processes ( i.e. cash processing / handling etc),

**JOB SPECIFICATIONS**
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with people.
- Excellent organization and communication skills (oral and written).
- Good judgment, tact and diplomacy, and initiative.
- Effectiveness in attending to details.
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team in a high volume environment.
- Cash handling experience.
- Knowledge of the York
- Smart Serve certification is mandatory
- Food Handlers Certification an asset
- First aid and CPR an asset

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

**Experience**:

- catering or event: 2 years (preferred)
