Design Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Technician to join our dynamic team. The Design Technician will play a crucial role in preparing precise designs and drawings, ensuring compliance with various standards, and supporting the successful completion of telecommunication construction projects. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including project managers, CAD technicians, and field staff, to ensure high-quality and timely project delivery.
Work focused in Southwestern Ontario - may extend to 200 kilometers

Key Responsibilities
- Design Creation: Develop accurate CAD drawings and designs for outside plant networks (aerial and underground) in compliance with provincial, municipal, utility, and client standards. Ensure all designs are submitted to local jurisdictions for permits.
- Field Measurement: Conduct field surveys to collect data on surface features and underground utilities. Use this information to support and refine design accuracy.
- Documentation Management: Organize and maintain job folders, progress reports, and ensure all project documentation is detailed and up-to-date.
- Project Coordination: Assist Project Managers in tracking project timelines, verifying design accuracy, and ensuring adherence to schedules. Maintain and update invoicing records as necessary.
- GIS and Design Tools: Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other design software to develop and manage design layouts. Produce comprehensive design packages for review and submission.
- Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to health and safety policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Participate in safety training and maintain a structured work environment.
Required Education and Experience
- Education: Post-secondary certification in a relevant field (e.g., Architectural, Civil, Electrical).
- 1-3 years of experience using AutoCAD for design and drafting.
- Hands-on experience with field surveying and design verification.
- Familiarity with GIS software and drafting tools (e.g., SPIDAcalc) is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
- Technical Skills: Proficient in developing and interpreting technical designs and drawings. Ability to create accurate 2D images using AutoCAD and troubleshoot design issues.
- Project Management: Capable of managing multiple projects, meeting tight deadlines, and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Physical: Ability to perform tasks involving sitting, standing, bending, and walking. Capable of lifting up to 20 lbs and handling drafting tools.
- Mental: Advanced numeracy skills, ability to communicate effectively, strong spatial perception, and the capacity to think visually about geometric forms.
Working Conditions
- Environment: Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork. Exposure to various weather conditions and occasional loud equipment.
- Schedule: 8-hour shift, Monday to Friday.
