Hours of Work - 28 Hours per week

: Safe Shelter for youth is a community-based early intervention program that is designed to help young people (ages 16-21) who are at risk of, in the early stages of, or, are homeless. The goal of this program is to help young people stay connected to their family, community and services, and to strengthen connections to natural supports in order to prevent and/or reduce the risk of homelessness.
DUTIES PERFORMED BY A SAFE SHELTER COORDINATOR ON A REGULAR BASIS:
Use Stages of Change model to outreach and engage high risk, marginalized youth in Renfrew County in activities that promote assets, competencies and resiliency, including youth with disabilities, newcomer youth, aboriginal youth, and youth from diverse communities (racial, cultural, sexual orientation, etc.).
Provide brokerage/advocacy/resourcing and act as an advocate for youth and families, and provide general information and referral services to the youth for recreation, housing, employment, education, health, other services
Work collaboratively with youth, parents, youth service providers, schools, city staff and police to develop effective service delivery plans that ensure that youth have access to programs, services and opportunities needed for healthy development by:
- Engaging youth and families to identify issues, needs, goals aspirations, skills, abilities and services needed as well as barriers to accessing these services.
- Providing youth and families with information, contacts and referrals needed to facilitate access to programs, services and opportunities.
- Organize and participate in public education seminars, workshops, groups and training for youth, parents and service providers.
- Liaise with, and consult to the community, Boards of Education, schools and other service providers as required regarding the particular needs of marginalized youth and families.
- Liaise with community to develop initiatives on poverty and homelessness.
- Maintain service statistics
Complete accurate and timely preparation of case documentation as per agency standards.
Adhere to all FCSRC policies and procedures, Ministry Regulations, Standards, Directives and relevant legislation.
Responsible for the completion of other related tasks as assigned.
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Demonstrated use of Signs of Safety Model (principles, philosophy, tools) in case planning and recording
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and negotiate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team of service providers;
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the youth community combined with previous youth outreach and/or community development experience;
- Demonstrated skills in delivering group programs and workshops;
- A combination of clinical, program development, and strong administrative and organizational skills and abilities are required for this position;
- Eligible for certification/membership in relevant professional association;
- Demonstrated ability to write grant proposals
Knowledge, experience, and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by marginalized groups.
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and implement evidence-based research into practice
Understanding of the CYFSA, Signs of Safety, Anti-Oppressive Practice and Strength-Based approach
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
BA in social sciences, or Child and Youth Worker Diploma or SSW with 2 years of directly related experience
French Language skills considered an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office working condition apply
Ability to travel and work out of different offices within Renfrew County
Ability to work flexible hours
