**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Title: SHINE Navigation Lead**
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, 37.5 hours per week
**Probationary period**: 3 months

Seniors Services Society is a community based non-profit charity located in New Westminster, B.C. We support older adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with housing navigation and supports to help them live independently. In addition, we provide knowledge mobilization and supports to individuals and agencies supporting seniors provincially.

Purpose**:SHINE Navigation Lead** is responsible for providing housing navigation services, coordinating/delivering Housing Navigator Training and assisting SHINE manager with data collection, podcast coordination and partnership management. This position reports to the SHINE Manager.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Housing Navigation**:

- Handle housing related inquiries for further case management needs after they are escalated from the Information and Referral specialist.
- Make referrals to internal resources including Outreach Services, Temporary Housing Program and

Homeless Prevention Program as appropriate.
- Assist homeless clients in accessing emergency shelter and support services.
- Network with service providers and make referrals for the clients as appropriate including the health authority and mental health support programs.
- Represent the agency in the community when requested.
- Work with building managers and landlords to prevent evictions of clients when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate records as required and prepare reports as requested.

**Housing Navigator Training**
- Coordinate and facilitate two HNT sessions per year (a number of sessions per year may change based on needs and funding availability). Each cycle consists of four two-hour sessions, being delivered virtually and covering topics such as Navigation Basics, Federal programs/services for seniors, provincial programs/services for seniors, Elder Abuse awareness and Residential Tenancy Law.

Selection of topics may change as the needs/trend change in future.
- Duties include determining the course delivery dates, creating course promotion materials (i.e. posters on CANVA), securing guest speakers for the chosen topics, managing registration process, setting up Zoom links for the sessions, communicating with registrants and assisting to produce outcome reports for the funders.

**SHINE Program Coordination**
- Assist with partnership managements with SHINE partners throughout BC.
- Assist with program data collection from all SHINE partners in preparation for the reporting requirements for funders.
- Provide guidance and training for SHINE navigators located in each partner agency as needed.

- Provide administrative assistance to SHINE manager as needed.
- Coordinate monthly podcasts with pre-selected guest speakers (12 sessions per year for two years) and liaise with the external partner for recording sessions.

Other duties as assigned based on the operational needs.

**Qualifications**:

- Post secondary education in any of the following categories: social work, community social service, mental health, or gerontology. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Or equivalent life and work experience
- Minimum one year experience working with those who are homeless, living with mental illness and/or addiction
- Knowledgeable in community resources for seniors
- Understanding of systems that can lead to homelessness and/or poverty
- Workshop facilitation experience both in-person and virtually
- Attention to details and ability to manage data by using Excel spreadsheets or an equivalent data tracking system
- Possess skills and comfort in community engagement activities
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate an asset
- First Aid certificate an asset
- Must be willing to provide a criminal record check with the vulnerable sector clearance
- Ability to balance work/life

**Other knowledge, skills, and abilities**:
The successful applicant will be a self driven and motivated individual who can work under minimum supervision. They must be able to build positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, clients, housing providers, and community stakeholders. Thorough knowledge of government and community resources and programs for seniors and those defined as, ‘hard to house’ a must. The applicant will be a creative problem solver who can work under stress and remain calm under tight timelines. She or he will be a highly organized individual who is detail oriented.
- **Salary range is $48,750 to $50,700/year. A competitive benefits package will be offered after successful completion of three-month probation. This is a full-time regular position: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. **_
