**Position Title**
- Associate Vice President, Strategic Communications and Marketing**Position Summary**
- Red Deer Polytechnic welcomes you to join the External Relations team as the permanent full-time Associate Vice President of Strategic Communications and Marketing.
- Reporting to the Vice-President of Development and Partnerships, the Associate Vice-President (AVP) Strategic Communications & Marketing develops and implements strategic and measurable communications and marketing plans that creatively engage and inspire the institution’s diverse stakeholders. Marketing and communications plans will address advertising, public relations, market research, publications, digital/social media, events, media relations, and other aspects. Accountability for the development and management of the required budgets to deliver on these plans resides with this incumbent. Critically, the AVP leads, motivates, and supervises a team of professionals to articulate and promote Red Deer Polytechnic’s brand to increase its regional, provincial, national, and global reputation.This role requires a strategic thinker who scans and assesses internal and external environments to take advantage of new opportunities while mitigating risk to the organization. The AVP, Strategic Communications and Marketing engages in open and honest communication that fosters an environment of trust. Decisions are made with appropriate consultation and change is implemented with forethought and consideration for individuals impacted. Fundamentally, the incumbent integrates the institution’s values into daily practice and acts as a role model and mentor to colleagues and team members.**Position Responsibilities**
- Develops and implements a comprehensive and proactive Polytechnic strategic communications and marketing engagement strategy that supports and enhances public opinion, academic and employer reputation, student enrolment, and philanthropic support
- Translates strategic plans into annual operational plans and accompanying budget to deliver on the department’s goals and initiatives
- Establishes and is accountable to meet key performance indicators for communications and marketing plans and initiatives
- Provides leadership and expertise to the institution in developing and promoting the Polytechnic identity
- Builds and manages relationships with senior colleagues and external partners to identify new and emerging opportunities for the Polytechnic to promote its value proposition and transformative purpose to key stakeholder groups
- Directs an integrated marketing, branding, storytelling, and media strategy that ensures continuity and coordination of key messages and approaches to the Polytechnic’s diverse stakeholders, which includes learners, community members, government, industry, donors, alumni, staff, faculty and more
- Ensures high quality and consistent internal and external communications, publications, website, media relations, and advertising tactics, including campaigns
- Contributes to, and leads, the building of effective operational relationships between Strategic Communications and Marketing, and other units across the institution in areas of joint interest or common goals
- Coordinates and oversees the Office of the President’s strategic communication needs
- Ensures current and innovative practices in strategic communications and marketing that are future ready but pragmatic, relevant, and operational
- Builds a strong, experienced team of professionals that can plan and implement timely and successful marketing and communications strategy
- Accesses and uses data to make informed decisions related to programs and services.
- Allocates resources in alignment with institutional priorities while managing risk and maximizing opportunities
- Analyzes budgets and makes in-year adjustments as required to achieve expected outcomes.
- Contributes to the overall Polytechnic community through participation in institution-wide initiatives and events

**Required Qualifications**
- 10-15 years of experience in Marketing and Communications, with the most recent 5 years in a management role leading a team in a large, complex organization
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business or a related field; MBA preferred

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Certified Advertising Agency Practitioner (CAAP) or Accredited Public Relations Practitioner (APR) is an asset
- Experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset
- Change management experience is highly preferred
