The Human Resources Services team consists of functional units such as HR Operations (Payroll and Data Management, HR Client Advisory Services, HR Systems Strategy, Reporting and Analytics), Talent, Equity & Development; Health, Safety Well-being & Labour Relations; Compensation, Benefits & Retrement Programs and our Strategic Implementation team who enable the delivery of comprehensive Human Resources programs and services in collaboration with leaders, HR area offices and HR practitioners across our community.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Compensation, the Compensation Consultant will serve as a trusted partner to organizational leaders, employees, HR colleagues, and union partners by providing expert consultation and guidance on a variety of compensation topics.

The Compensation Consultant is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the University’s job evaluation programs for unionized and non-unionized employee groups; supporting the University’s unionized job evaluation programs and accompanying dispute resolution processes; conducting pay equity maintenance reviews; and completion of surveys and market analyses.

**Compensation Program**:

- Research and evaluate professional trends, best practices, and issues related to compensation.
- Perform complex analyses and costing for a variety of initiatives, including bargaining. Develop alternative scenarios for consideration.
- Write a variety of program and practice proposals, guidelines, reports, briefs, and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
- Support the development and maintenance of a variety of compensation initiatives which may include development of the pay policy line, the annual salary review, introduction of bonus programs, and other related recommendations and communications.

**Job Evaluation**:

- Provides direction, guidance, and comprehensive consulting and advisory services to managers within faculties and/or departments with respect to job evaluation. Provides advice and recommendations on job design.
- Manages the daily operation of the University’s multiple job evaluation programs.
- Facilitates the work of the Job Evaluation Committees in partnership with the Senior Manager, Compensation. Develops and delivers training for Committee members.
- Negotiates with union representatives towards dispute resolution. Meets with union representatives on a regular basis for the purpose of information sharing.

**Projects**:

- Collaborate with fellow members of Human Resources Services to ensure alignment and integration of employee programs.
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of human resource plans that are consistent with future operational requirements.

**Pay Equity**
- Partners with Employee/Labour Relations to review and finalize pay equity plans with Unions.
- Maintains and audits pay equity plans to ensure compliance with policies and legislative requirements.

**Partnerships**
- Providing timely response and advice to departments and HR partners in accordance with departmental and team service standards.
- Partners and collaborates with members of Employee/Labour Relations, the HR Operations, and HR Business Partners to develop solutions to complex problems.
- Works collaboratively and maintains partnerships with faculties, departments and committees to determine needs, and identify and implement approaches to support strategy and help achieve objectives.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree with a focus on Human Resources or related field preferred).
- A CPP, CEBS, or CHRP designation
- At least 5 years of experience in compensation or a related field is required.
- Experience in a University setting and multi‐unionized environment is an asset.
