McMaster University is multi-faceted with multiple locations and constituencies. As a result, Human Resources support and services at McMaster have developed over time to meet a spectrum of stakeholder needs. The Human Resources Services team consists of functional units such as HR Operations (Payroll and Data Management, HR Client Services, HR Systems Strategy, Reporting and Analytics), Talent, Equity & Development, Health, Safety, Wellbeing & Labour Relations, and Total Compensation, Benefits & Retirement Programs, who enable the delivery of comprehensive Human Resources programs and services in collaboration with leaders, HR area offices and HR practitioners across our community.

**The Role**

The HR Operations Consultant is at the core of the HR department working independently and with HR colleagues to deliver a complex HR services across the University. Reporting to the Program Manager, HR Client Services, the HR Operations Consultant partners HR knowledge with a deep understanding of the complex HR policies, procedures, and collective agreements that impact 16 employee groups, including both unionized and non-unionized, throughout an employee’s lifecycle. The HR Operations Consultant leverages their broad central HR knowledge to administer HR programs and operational processes and deliver a seamless experience for employees, managers and administrators with a focus on client and employee experience. The role brings institutional HR knowledge and experience and create connections among our key HR teams -Centre of Expertise, HR Strategic Partners and other embedded HR roles in each faculty to transform key HR Processes and deliver new HR solutions.

Collaborating with HR community, the primary role involves providing operational advice and guidance on HR policies, programs, management, administering the processes of Collective Agreements and HR Policies and ensuring compliance with employment policies and employment legislation; responsibilities also include offering recruitment advice to clients; addressing complex HR related issues related to HR programs, policies, and administration processes, assessing client concerns and objectives, proposing recommendations and approaches. Additionally, the role is required to provide support to ; case management, policy and program procedure interpretations; supporting HRl projects and deliverables, and contributing to employee life-event transactional processes as part of a cross-functional team.

**Minimum Qualifications and Experience**
- University degree with a focus in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent experience
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation strongly preferred
- 4-5 years’ HRBP/HR generalist experience, preferably in a large, unionized environment
- Experience in an academic setting an asset
- Functional knowledge and broad experience in all areas of operational human resources policies, practices, processes, and legislation
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and address employee and policy issues and exercise sound and experienced judgment in providing advice and guidance, often in ambiguous situations
- Early adopter of process enhancements and demonstrated agility in service delivery of programs
- Analytical thinker with proven negotiation and influencing skills
- Excellent interpersonal and well-developed communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working with HRIS/Payroll systems
- Ability to build strong client relationships with clients and managers
- Ability to handle multiple priorities
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and simplified approaches
