Key responsibilities (shared and distributed amongst a team of Chemistry Technicians):

- Day-to-day and yearly preparation, maintenance, and organization of laboratory spaces;
- Planning and preparing laboratory materials and solutions for undergraduate chemistry and chemistry-related courses, as well as generating and maintaining technical notes and resources for experimental preparation;
- Providing support, trouble-shooting problems, and answering questions related to experimental set-up and preparation during scheduled lab experiments;
- Purchasing, logging and maintaining general lab equipment, chemicals, and lab supplies;
- Maintaining labs in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations, WHMIS legislation (chemical storage and handling, waste disposal), and preparing appropriate documentation and procedures; and
- Ensuring proper handling and disposal of chemical waste.

SKILLS
- The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks to meet deadlines efficiently and effectively, and work collaboratively with the technical lab support team;
- Adaptable interpersonal skills, to liaise with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff;
- Working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and general laboratory safety procedures required for the safe operation of a chemistry laboratory; and
- Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills, with an aptitude to learn new techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of a relevant diploma.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a laboratory.
- Equivalences may be considered.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- The ability to lift, move, or carry equipment or materials up to 20 kg.
- During the teaching semester this position is required to work a modified work week of Tuesday to Saturday, in addition to providing support for the evening lab sections (12:30pm - 8:30pm). The nature and requirements of the lab schedules may require the technician to adapt their work schedule accordingly. As part of the technician team, you will provide coverage for other laboratory technicians when required.
