As a member KidsInclusive (KI), the Infant & Child Development Consultant provides intervention services to infants from birth to school entry years of age who are developmentally delayed or at risk of developmental delay by providing in-home developmental assessments, programming, support and educational resources to the parents or primary caregiver of the infant, in accordance with MCCSS Service Objectives. Working closely with members of the KidsInclusive and community based teams, the Infant & Child Development Consultant provides direct and indirect client care; documents his/her involvement in client care; maintains communication with all other staff members; supports departmental efforts in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities; participates in education orientation and public relations, as required; maintains a safe work environment; performs other related duties as assigned.

Each employee must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for supporting and providing client and family-centered care, including the provision of flexible hours. Employees will demonstrate dignity and respect by being courteous and introducing themselves by name, occupation and role. Wherever possible, the Infant & Child Development Consultant will ensure that clients and families receive complete and accurate information and have the opportunity to ask questions. They will encourage clients and families to participate in care and decision-making at the level they choose, and collaborate by involving the client and family in the formulation of a plan of care/family service plan.

**PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Clinical**:

- Gather background information and identify the needs of the infant and family by using appropriate assessment tools in determining the developmental status of the infant;
- This may include observation of the infant and his/her environment; collecting pertinent information about the infant and the family through parent interview and consultation; collaborating with other service providers as appropriate
- Provide services in the early years of a child’s development through home visiting intervention and through referrals to other community programs.
- Provide early intervention services within the child’s daily routines and familiar environments
- Support the family/caregivers towards active involvement in all services provided through the program, including: services that are parent/caregiver-led and responsive to parent/caregiver strengths, competencies and priorities, and collaborating with other community programs and agencies to provide opportunities for optimal development of the child and family.
- Support families in the identification of goals to maximize the development of their children. The family’s goals are documented in a Family Service Plan which is updated every six months
- Service coordination for each family at an early stage as part of service planning.

**Administrative**:

- Maintain a record of all daily activities in Goldcare as per KidsInclusive policy
- Ensure maintenance of all client information, in accordance with privacy legislation and KHSC/KidsInclusive policies.
- Participate in team meetings, discipline meetings and KidsInclusive meetings as required
- Provide mentoring/ student placement and shadowing opportunities as requested by management
- Provide input to the development of department and or hospital quality improvement procedures as requested.
- Facilitate working relationships with providers in the children’s services, health and educations sectors, in order to obtain and share relevant information regarding services.
- Comply with relevant statistical, clinical and administrative reporting requirements
- Comply with KHSC and KidsInclusive policies and procedures
- Carries out duties in a way that embodies the mission and values of KidsInclusive and KHSC and works co-operatively with fellow employees, supervisors and departments toward the achievement of the organization’s overall goals and objectives
- Assumes other duties that are assigned in accordance with experience, training and qualifications to which legislated requirements may be applicable

**Educational**:

- Maintain a standard of professional education by attending educational programs and workshops; transmit information obtained from these workshops to fellow employees.
- Complete e-learning modules as required by KHSC/KidsInclusive policies
- Assume educational responsibilities as required by KidsInclusive
- Maintain a record of all educational activities on Goldcare

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A diploma or degree in child /youth/family studies or social services or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three years recent work experience in a related field with demonstrated practical knowledge of infant and child development
- Experience working with children/youth with complex special needs and their families
