- JBH is a Clinical Education site in conjunction with McMaster University, and designated as an Academic Community Teaching Hospital. Its expanded campus includes the state-of-the-art Michael Lee-Chin & Family Patient Tower, featuring a new Emergency Department, 295 acute inpatient beds, 9 new Operating Rooms and post-anaesthetic care unit to support expanded medical, surgical and outpatient services. JBH is also a partner member of the Burlington Ontario Health Team (OHT).-:

- Working collaboratively with the Manager, Health Information Services (HIS) and Privacy, the Supervisor, Coding and Data Quality is responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, and evaluating health records coding, clinical information analysis and coding education corporately, in accordance with established practices, legislation, hospital policies, rules and regulations and to meet the overall objectives of the Health Information Services (HIS) Department and Joseph Brant Hospital.
- The incumbent will lead a team of specialized HIM-certified staff and build processes, skills and relationships to improve health data capture, coding, data quality, reconciliation with health information systems data analysis and reporting. This critical work will inform decision makers, stakeholders, funding bodies, researchers, and many others about the care being provided to patients and resources expended to do so at Joseph Brant Hospital.- The Supervisor, Coding and Data Quality will be responsible for monitoring, assessing and addressing data quality issues with a view to developing standards for the Health Information Department that are in keeping with national, provincial and hospital directives. The Supervisor, Coding and Data Quality will be responsible for identifying data quality issues, and developing documentation and/or education as required, to support the Health Information Management (HIM) Specialists. The Supervisor, Coding and Data Quality will also be responsible for conducting reviews and implementing other measureable assessment tools with regard to data quality. The Supervisor, Coding and Data Quality will assist in WinRecs updates and provide system maintenance as needed and will assist in report writing for quality assurance purposes. The Supervisor, Coding and Data Quality will also be responsible for the collection and maintenance of CIHI databases (DAD & NACRS) and ensure their comprehensiveness and accuracy to optimize hospital funding, and to certify that CIHI deadlines are met.
- REPSONSIBILITIES:

- " Run regular coding audits and establish controls to co-ordinate a comprehensive quality assurance program.
- " Develop and revise procedures and provide direction in coding and abstracting.
- " To provide education and to lead discussions on data quality issues.
- " Run monthly data quality and error edit checks and ensure corrections are completed.- " Create reports for data edits and statistics.
- " Assist with creation and monitoring of internal coding queries and source out expert guidelines in order to address the queries.
- " To conduct periodic reviews, e.g. re-abstraction studies, in order to assess data quality.
- " Implement and instruct staff on capturing new and present QBP's to ensure maximal hospital funding.
- " Run monthly data quality checks to ensure QBP's are not missed or incorrect.
- " Attend and update staff on an ongoing basis related to QBP and HBAM changes and additions.
- " Utilize internal and external data quality tools and reports to identify opportunities for coding revisions that will ensure completeness and accuracy of coded data.
- " Collect Discharge Analysis Database (DAD), Canadian Joint Replacement Registry (CJRR) Emergency Room, Day Surgery and Oncology (NACRS) Emergency National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (ERNI) and NACRS LITE coded data and submit files to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) for statistical reporting and hospital funding.
