Child Care Inclusion Student

The Child Care Inclusion Student is a grant funded position. The student must be entering into post-secondary education or continuing with their post-secondary education.

The Inclusion Student will support the centre in providing inclusive experience for children with and without diverse needs and their families including a senses of belonging (gender and culture diversity), positive social relationships, development and learning to reach their full potential, in compliance with the requirements of the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Services; Inclusion Support Grant, the vision and philosophy of the child care centre and the mission of the Military Family Resource Centre. We believe that all individuals deserve an environment and experiences that promote growth in all areas of their development. Our team will collaborate with families to develop a plan that will support a positive child care experience.

Family Support:

- Daily communication with families; keeping them informed of all pertinent information regarding their children.

Inclusion and Program Support:

- Provide support coverage when the Inclusion Coordinator and Inclusion Educator are on leave.
- Provide support during outings and field trips
- Follow centre and individual support plans; practice appropriate child development practices, behaviour guidance strategies. Look at the whole child, family experience use a family centred approach.
- Support and work directly with the Inclusion Coordinator, Inclusion Educator and ECE’s in taking observations/collect data.
- Support ECE’s to implement goals for individual children’s progress, e.g., Routine Based Plans/Positive Behaviour Plans
- Support the evaluation tool, Special links ECIQS (Early Childhood Inclusion Quality Scale).
- Daily communication with the Inclusion Coordinator, Inclusion Educator, Director/ Assistant Director and other ECE’s.
- Work on special projects as assigned.

**Conditions of Employment**
- Ability to work in fast paced, ever changing environment that is responsive to community needs
- Child Abuse Registry, Criminal Records Check & Vulnerable Sector Check
- First Aid & CPR Certification (Level C), Standard is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of the unique challenges of the military family lifestyle is considered an asset; and
- Supports the H&R MFRC Professional Workplace Culture

**Education & Experience**
- **Must be a Nova Scotia Resident or reside in Nova Scotia for past 6 months**
- **Either a Grade 12 graduate and accepted into university/college in the fall; or a current university/college student returning or transferring to university/college**
- Experience working with children ages 3 months - 12 years in a licensed childcare facility
- Experience working with parents and as part of a team in a licensed childcare facility
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset

**Term Employment**: July 2nd-August 31

**Salary**: $15.20/hour plus 4% vacation pay.

**Hours**: 40 hour work week, shifts may vary.
