The Part-Time Program Worker is responsible for delivering high quality services, in accordance with the Mission and policies of YWCA Toronto and the needs of women and their children who have experienced or are experiencing abuse/violence in their lives, through direct program delivery and administration and in collaboration with other Program Workers.

**ABOUT YWCA TORONTO - 1st STOP WOODLAWN**

The YWCA Breakthrough Program is a turning point program for women that offers community-based support groups for women who have experienced abuse or other kinds of violence. Through the discussion, creative expression through the arts, and body-based awareness practices, Breakthrough provides a place where women can connect with each other in safe and non-judgmental ways, explore the impact of abuse and violence, build community, and gain information and resources to increase safety and well-being for themselves, their families, and communities.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Works collaboratively with all members of the Breakthrough team to plan and implement service delivery;
- Facilitates up to four support/ educational/counselling group sessions weekly;
- Designs and delivers groups related to women abuse, and/or child sexual abuse/incest, including groups with an emphasis on healing through the use of arts and body-based awareness practices;
- Works in co-operation with a Co-facilitator to plan and implement weekly groups;
- Develops and maintains an up-to-date list of referral sources, reflecting the inclusiveness of communities in Greater Toronto;
- Conducts intake interviews with prospective participants, assessing both the fit of the participant’s service needs with the program services available and other client service needs that fall outside the program’s mandate or resources;
- Designs and develops the curriculum for the expressive arts based on program goals and needs of the participants;
- Provides short-term practical counselling, crisis counselling, problem solving, safety planning, and makes referrals for therapy or other supports as appropriate;
- Provides crisis, support counselling and conflict resolution for participants immediately following group, when necessary;
- Works closely with the Manager of Girls’ and Family Programs & Breakthrough and child care workers to support the child care programs; responsible for the child care program and the safety of children in the absence of the Manager of Girls’ and Family Programs;
- Maintains records through EMHware, prepares and maintains individual participant's files including: progress reports, compiles program statistics, prepares annual program report and reports as required by funders and carries out other administrative tasks as required;
- Participates in public education activities about women and violence.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through the completion of a supervised undergraduate degree (examples: social work, adult education, psychology, counselling) or equivalent; **(Cases for Equivalency will be considered);**:

- Certificate/Diploma in Expressive Arts Therapy;
- 3-5 years’ experience in counselling and group work with women who have experienced or are experiencing abuse/violence;
- Experience delivering trauma-specific services with an arts-based, body-based awareness, or community development approach;
- Experience creating and leading mindfulness sessions;
- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, verbal and written communication skills;
- In-depth expertise required on the issues of childhood sexual abuse and violence against women, including the impact of trauma, oppression and other forms of violence on all aspects of women’s lives;
- Knowledge of the range of service needs the program’s client population often require and the resources and programs available to meet them, in addition to knowledge and experience providing access to those services through referrals and information-sharing;
- Knowledge of a language other than English an asset.
